What happened is that Ephebopus violaceus was transferred to Tapinauchenius and found to be a senior synonym of Tapinauchenius purpureus. So you had two species - Tapinauchenius purpureus & Tapinauchenius violaceus - that are in fact one and the same, and T. violaceus is the senior synonym and thus the valid name.

Is Tapinauchenius cupreus the valid name now or is it a different species? I'm looking to get T. violaceus but I've only come across T. cupreus...

Tapinauchenius cupreus Schmidt & Bauer, 1996 and Tapinauchenius violaceus (Mello-Leitão, 1930) are two different, valid species.

Thanks again... I searched them both out but I found a lot of the same pictures under both names.
