This is what my T shelf looks like right now:
I painted it myself
there is a 10g under the bottom shelf.

In the future, I will be adding a surge protector to the back so I can plug in lights/ heating mats, and other accessories. I have already got a light that I will be fixing to the bottom of the middle shelf. So please post your T shelves and how you have customized them or any ideas you have for them... Or mine.

Here is my current shelf. I plan to enclose the sides and rear with paneling, and put plexiglass on the front.

Have you done your homework on tarantula husbandry mister?
You won't need heat mats and light fixures for the most part.
Were red light bulbs in your plans for lighting?

Here's an idea, use the money you'll save by not buying what you
don't need, to add some actual tarantulas to your new collection...
(that's an awesome idea!)
oh and you might want to pick up a copy of "The Tarantula Keeper's Guide"
if you haven't already. :)

Nice paint job! You'll definitely be needing more shelves soon though!

Shelve it

Looks organized & clean, & I like that the T uses the foam tunnel....like my leopard gex do *smile*.
I use a steel shelving framing w/ wooden flats that hold many 20 gallon aquariums and hexagon tanks, acrylics too. Home Depo™ = $131 [drilled bolts through melamine bottom-carpet-concrete = live on fault-line - I know - my fault *tee-hee*]

- Jason [message via nintendo DSi - lol]

P.S. I have some ''hybrids'' that you can ''rescue'' - lol *wink*

Ms. B: Phone did not ring = lol *wink*

Red: vials out to ya Monday = All packed - *also a wink*

Thanks! :) I forgot to move that bottle.. Its not cough syrup.. Its a spit bottle.. Instead of smoking I dip.. The spoon was there because me neice was helping me build enclosures for 50 H. gigas slings.. She didnt want to touch it with her hands so she spooned it.. {D

Really? They are ExoTerra... The only ones I could at my LPS.. What makes me mad.. I paid $15 for those at a Mom & Pops Petstore... Then I go into Petco.. They have the same ones.. For $7 or $8.. :wall:

Yes I have done all my homework, I have two heat mats and those are for when it gets cold in my room. Second, I'm not using light fixtures as a heat source... atleast trying not to, I dont know about wattage and stuff like that or if it will create too much heat. Because under my shelves create shadows too much. And I was either going to go with red or black light. Which is safe? Or will a regular light be fine, not a heating lamp or anything.

The only money I will be spending that I know of will be the surge protector. That's all I need.

Still need a copy of the TKG

Thanks. Took me forever to paint it because I'm lazy lol.

They have a really wide handle and then go very skinny rather than a gradual taper.

T. sp. burgundy side

Sorry about the pics they're not the greatest...
I don't use or have any special lighting what so ever...
I just use the same light from my room...
The only other thing i use or I have is a space heater... i use this in the winter... Just in case my room temps drop, My room temp is usually at 75-80..... and also one heat pad for my hotbox.....

I'm not sure about which lights or wattage because I really don't use lights
for my tarantula enclosures in general.
I have done tanks with lighted tops but decided against them because they aren't secure as far as keeping a tarantula inside.
I didn't retain much of the information read about possible lighting because
as mentioned, I don't really use them.
For heating, I can't really answer or suggest to you because temperatures have not been specified.
TKG would be a great idea for you at this point. (try www.Amazon.com )

Also, a surge protector's going to run you pretty cheap. (Yay more $$$ for Ts! :D )

I do hope you get the answers you require.

OP- Chris-
The TKG tells us to NOT to use black light. Ts see that wave length very well and it would be like a spot light to them. That could really stress them out.

if you really want to use a light at night, id suggest using red light buld or led.....
they dont have any ill effects on the T's... specially for night veiwing.......
