Hi Arachnofriends,

So I thought I'd share a few tools of the trade for exposure work to treat a phobia of spiders and insects. I find it interesting. I thought some of you would as well.

For this exposure the patient takes home the grab bag of bugs (pictured here) and a family member hides them all over the place so the patient will find them randomly throughout the week and be surprised. It is this exposure that helps eventually lower the fear of how unpredictable insects often are and the fact that they just show up. This is usually done towards the end of treatment and of course, with lots of willingness and cooperation from the patient and the family!

The plastic insects are from a toy set I had at home. My daughter is only interested in playing with the spider- go figure!
