I've been hearing a lot of hype surrounding these guys lately and I'm no expert at ID'ing Scolopendra but they look awfully similar to S. alterans as I've heard others suggest.

Does anyone know anything about these animals? People report that they grow "bigger than S. gigantea" but where I've seen their lengths recorded they seem to top out at around eight or nine inches at the most. A pet shop in Germany has them listed as just over nine inches. I'm not trying to go shooting anyone down but I'm curious as to how much we actually know about these critters. Especially before I go off trying to buy one later on down the road. I've seen some impressive S. alterans but I don't think they get -that- big.

Here's a picture Arachnophiliacs has of theirs, if it helps with an ID.
