I purchased two Singapore Blue slings tonight from BigAppleherp I have always wanted these beautiful blue agressive Ts and now I have two slings coming.:worship: :worship: :worship:
First time I ever heard that ,about a high mortality rate with this species, does anyone else agree or disagree? is this a hard species to keep in captivity? I will soon find out.:? :? :? :?
This is a species I'm looking into owning once I get some others to get my hands dirty with first. I'm seeing more singepore blue deaths on here than avics!
the first one I bought as a 1/4 inch sling for 165 dollars. I kept it in the perfect environment until it grew until 2.5 inches. I changed its environment and it dropped dead.
Then I bought 3 1.5 inch spiders a few months ago. One died recently from a wet molt. He was my only male... I have two females currently. One molted fine two days ago and it metallic blue with bright red hairs. The other has yet to molt and I am worried.
I don't have enough experience with these T's so I am no authority on the matter...
Although I would recommend keeping the temperatures on the lower side, and if the temperature is making you sweat, turn on a fan to get some air circulation.
I like to flood the enclosure every so often, my two females drink rather well when I do this. Other than the times of flooding, the enclosure dries out pretty good.
Mine eat very well 1 week post-molt, gorge themselves for a few weeks, then stop eating.
The above site gives very accurate information of their natural habitat. Keep in mind that they live in micro-niches where other factors maintain their ideal environment.
This is the flooding I'm talking about... works for my girls.

*My theory about this is that since these tarantulas live high up in tree crevices where they spin web tunnels, they probably collect dew or rain water from which they drink.
I think the key to keeping this T is to keep the humidity high and make sure they get enough to drink, I'm under the impression that they have hydration problems.
Congratulations!!!
I got 4 L.Violaceopes(Singapore blue) and all of them are in the 1-1/2 3" range.
One is flipped over molting now.
one of the 4 i raised from a sling.
That was a great youtube Vid on the singapore blue plus the other info you attached about its natural enviorment,I will definetly use the great info,I am going to be putting my two slings in two of the large Micheal square containers , that I have already prepared with substrate.
Thanks guys!! my Siggy blue molted today and it turns out it's a female so if it dies I WILL be royally pissed. She is about 2" now.... I tend to keep all my t's environments the same though even if I do change a tank.
