Well, after a year or so of keeping a species of Polyphaga (origin: Armenia), and having tried different things to get the ootheca to hatch successfully, including trying different amounts of humidity/periodical wetness, different rations of sand/peat/compost, different foods, and different amounts of depth available for digging, approximately one egg sac appears to finally have hatched.

I believe (I cannot remember if it was Xelda or someone else who adviced me about this) that the depth is the primary key. The largest KK available, filled to 8/9s with substrate. (But even then, it took a long long time before an ootheca hatched, so it appears mostly random, still..)

Has anyone been able to repeatedly make them create young successfully?
