Interesting and very beautiful spiders. Hope they become more common so that I'll be able to find a mate for my future ones.Phormictopus sp. blue is a rare one.
I didnt know they were in the hobby in the states. We barely see them here in Europe.
Here is photos of adult females -

I havent seen much info on these, but supposedly they are a locality variant from Dominican Republic of P. cancerides.
They are also not to be confused with sp. ‘South Hispaniola blue’ as these are from a different locality. And are just introduced to hobby.
Notice with the ‘South Hispaniola blue’ the violet carapace and turquoise/blue femurs instead of solid overall blue.

I have never seen either ‘sp. South Hispaniola blue’ or ‘sp. blue’ for sale as yet. I have only seen very few people in hobby with them. Maybe 3 or 4 folks. I snagged my SHB in a trade from the importer labelled as a ‘Dominican purple’. Hit the jackpot there aha. What are they costing out there?
The South Hispaniola blue is quite nice. We don't get many Ts with both blue and purple in the manner this one displays.

Do you know who anyone who has some? I saw a pair on Tom Moran’s channel but they don’t look like what the sp. blue back in Europe look like.We have sp blue here.
Are you sure its sp. blue? I think someone messed up labels on an export/importWe have sp blue here.
That’s what I was thinking as well. Still a beautiful tarantula regardless.I have just seen Tom’s “sp. Blue”.
They arent sp. blue. They are sp. ‘green (gold carapace)’ or sp. ‘green femur’. They have blueish femurs at subadult stage. This has clearly caused some confusion.
Phormics are easier to be identified on adult colouration.
I haven't seen pics of them. I'd be surprised if they were not, but anything is possible. Are you sure its sp. blue? I think someone messed up labels on an export/import
Yeah there was an export to US by collectors who did not know what they were. They were shipped at subadult stage and had blue femurs. So the exporter labelled them sp. blue. When they should have been exported as sp. green femur. After doing some digging around, sp. ‘blue’ is/was in the US hobby. However this was then old version of sp. blue which is now ‘South Hispaniola’/‘sp. green femur’.
I’m curious to see if this new import is actually sp. ‘blue’ or if it is the old version though, even if there is a small chance it is the actual one. Still waiting to hear back from the seller.Yeah there was an export to US by collectors who did not know what they were. They were shipped at subadult stage and had blue femurs. Where are they being exported from? I cant find any sp. blue here in EuropeI’m curious to see if this new import is actually sp. ‘blue’ or if it is the old version though, even if there is a small chance it is the actual one. Still waiting to hear back from the seller.
Not sure exactly, I can ask. What about the person who’s images you linked to? Does she do any breeding? She commented on a couple of my questions when asked on the FB group.Where are they being exported from? I cant find any sp. blue here in Europe
Yes they are responsible for pretty much all these Phormictopus in hobby in EU. Well they had a lot of breedings of sp. green (gold), full green, green femur, el salvador, dominican purple etc etc.Not sure exactly, I can ask. What about the person who’s images you linked to? Well if she ever does anymore breedings of any of those, you should def convince your contact in the US into getting some too hahaYes they are responsible for pretty much all these Phormictopus in hobby in EU. He is already awaiting some Phormictopus species from me. He bought males for me to use from people in mainland Europe to send to me for breedings ahah.
