Poor fruit flies... All I can do is leave what remains of a watermelon, outside, for give to those lovely a bit of solace :(

I thought this article was interesting, about fruit flies feeling chronic pain. Your thoughs?
Still doesn't show that they actually feel pain, because that's essentially impossible. It's interesting, though, that something that lives for a month or less has chronic pain. Probably shows that chronic pain is essentially an evolutionary accident.

Interesting, but observe it with caution, for when genetics tend to be Drosophilo-centric it makes many causality assumptions about the meaning of physiology (like nociception) as we know it in mammals. Same receptors, same molecules perhaps, same function? Not by necessity, but these results are encouraging. More on this:
