I was in Hobby Lobby today grabbing a few things and these caught my eye.

The price was definitely right so I bought every one they had. The size is small enough to properly house a sling but there’s enough room for growth so you aren’t rehousing too often. It also provides nice depth for burrowers.

Anyway, I got home, unboxed it and it looked pretty decent.

I went ahead and marked some spots for holes and zipped a few in. Everything snapped together really tightly, although I know I’m going to have to do something about those joints in terms of moisture containment.

Hot glueing isn’t my forte, but I think it went okay. Next time I’ll use some aquarium silicone. I know I can control the bead better than I did with the hot glue. Space became an issue and things got a little messy.

Here’s the finished product.

The lid just sits on top (it’s actually the base). It’s got some weight and I don’t think a T could move it, but it could very easily be bumped into or jostled free. I’ve got some clear hinges somewhere...just need to find them.

Overall I’m happy with it. Cheap, solid and pretty dressy. As far as holding moisture, it does a fair job. One corner is better than the other three, so I think that’s the one I’ll keep wet.

Don't expect the glue to hold. It MIGHT, it MIGHT not. I've found hot glue to be nothing but crap, esp for holding plastics together. Great find!!!! Good luck though..........

The acrylic snaps together very well. In fact, if it weren’t for moisture concerns I think it’d hold together just fine.

If moisture containment concerned you, why not apply the silicone on the outside? Btw, 100% silicone, I use Dow brand, used as a sealer works well. Doesn't need to be "aquarium silicone", unless used on glass, its both a sealant and adhesive. "Tub & Tile" silicone contains fungicides/germicides and should be avoided.
Otherwise its a nice "mod job".

I thought it would look “cleaner” if the seal was on the inside.

Thanks for the tip on the silicone. I keep the aquarium stuff on hand as I’m still just beginning to dabble in the hobby. I’ve got a few other projects going on regarding hides and such and I feel like this is a good way to cover all of my bases.
