Found this staring at my dog... so I caught it. Would like to know what kind this is as they frequent the area I live in. It’s 2 inches long including its stinger. If there’s any more details about it that could help you identify it please let me know.

I think it’s either an Arizona bark or hairy... I’m not sure which growth stage this one is at so... yea I just don’t know *^*

Does look like a hairy. Possibly Hadrurus arizonensis "pallidus" or H. occidentalis. Where are you? Near Anzo Borrego?

Not C sculpturatus and they are not native to CA. Crescent markings half moon suggest H arizonensis pallid form. Pic does not give close up of tail to see if there are “hairs”. Young specimen.

Thank you all for the replies and insights. Here’s a closer pic if it helps and I do see some small strands of hair along the stinger and pincers.

I’m comparing the physical description of a dune scorpion to what I can see and it might be it.

It is either Hadrurus arizonensis 'pallidus' as a few members have suggested but could be H. anzaborrego depending on the location. The best way to know for sure is to look at the ventral trichobothria pattern on the manus.
