Can anyone id this? Found in South of France. About 5cm legspan.

Possible Oilios Argelasius. Very common in the Mediterranean region.

Good call. Does indeed seem to be a match. Very interesting movement and behaviour too I must add.

How so? Describe?

Just it's mannerism and movement, very different from a tarantula (I've never been up close to any Sparassidae before) and the way it retreated into that pose you see in the photo, thinking it was hiding from me. Cool creatures.

I think it is doing the ostrich thing.
