So, here's a strange observation. I caught a mature female Latrodectus sp. just over two years ago - no telling how long she was mature at the time, but she's still very much alive. Within a week of me catching her, she laid a single sac. Fast forward to this past month, and I believe that she's reaching the end of her life. Interestingly, though, is that she's dropping a sac about once per week. I woke up this morning to find her newest sac, the sixth one in as many weeks. They all seem to be duds. I separated the first two with full intentions of keeping them, but as of today they all have yet to yield any slings or darken in the least.

She seems to have self-amputated a leg shortly after dropping her first sac, and I'm doing all I can to keep her fat. But it seems like she's putting all of her nutrition towards dropping these dud sacs. What is the point of this? Has anyone seen anything like this before?
