Remember that less than 8 animals is considered as private, non commercial use and you dont need a permit. I've been looking into it myself, might get a permit anyway just to be safe. The tropical species are just too tempting for me.
The big problem with international shipping is when the seller puts an extra animal or two in there that is unlisted on the form, preemptive protection against DOA. A common practice when shipping from state to state, but it wreaks havoc when importing internationally.
Also when thing are mislabeled or packaged poorly. If all forms are filled out, everything is labeled and packaged correctly there is no problem. STILL NOT AN EXCUSE TO ILLEGALLY IMPORT, don't get me wrong I'm not advocating law breaking, just saying if proper procedure is followed, imports of small amounts of animals is OK. Just do the research before importing anything.
