Please explain what species you are referring to. The G. rosea or the G. porteri(sp?)
G. rosea is usually always brown through out its whole life. They do sometimes tend to have a little bit of pink on their carapace, but the rest is brown.

Now the red color form rosea (I think it's G. porteri[sp?]) starts out a brownish color, but as it gets older, it starts to get its adult colors, and when fully mature, that's when their true colors should show. And btw, males tend to get brighter colored than the females, whereas the females get a sort of orange-ish look. Hope this helps.

Currently there are three recognized color forms of G. rosea: normal, pink, and red.
They remain that color for the rest of their lives, though they may fade during molt cycles.
