This post is going to have a few pictures in it. These are all the Catocala species that I currently have in my collection. This is probably one of my favorite moth genera in my collection and I'm always on the lookout for them.

Hopefully I'll be adding some more species in the near future. What Catocala species do you all have in your collection (if you collect)?

On multiple occasions I have said that I consider moths to actually be more beautiful than butterflies (I like to think the Catocala sp I posted before help with that message). This species also does that belief justice I think.

I love the common name on Zale horrida as well. Moths get some of the weirdest common names.

I'm sure this is how it goes down too...

Person 1: "Hmm...lets think of a common name so people don't have to use the scientific name"
Person 2: "How about we use the scientific name as the common name...but switch the order!"
Person 1: ".........Yeah, that works"
