can't understand what spider i found it has about a 2.5 inch legspan and it has a long thick brown stripe running from the front of its eyes to the spinerets its no wolf spider could it be a recluse it also rests with two legs together thanx in advance

It's too big to be a recluse, and the stripe doesn't sound like one either.

Without a picture, it's hard to tell. Some fishing spiders have a stripe and are about that size.

Fishing spiders aren't always near water. The group is named because some members are almost always near water, but many turn up miles away from the nearest body of water.

Without a pic, all anyone can do is make guesses. There are probably several hundred species of spiders in you area that it could be. I would suggest the book "Spiders and Their Kin" by Levi and Levi. It should only cost $6 to $8 from almost any store like Barns and Noble. You may not find the actual species (there are thousands and thousands, way too many to list in one guide), but the book is really handy for figuring out the families and sometimes genera. Some of the names have changed since the book was first published, but it's still the closest thing we have to a field guide for spiders.
