How can I minimize the chances of my male tarantula being chomped while mating?

It's finally time to pair my curly hair tarantulas. My female was fed heavily during the preparation period, and my male has finished three sperm webs/destroyed them, (over a period of 19 days) and currently spends all of his time gently drumming around his enclosure. Today is the day I pair them, and I would like tips on how to keep my beloved Stiffler (specimen 001) from becoming dinner on the first, or any pairing.

Feeding her and him both is the best thing you can do. After that it's just kinda luck how things go.

Good luck.

Introduce the male on the opposite side of the females enclosure, let him make his way to her. Do not prod him/her during the process and let them do their thing, patience is key.

If she starts acting aggressively then remove the male and try again another day.

Tapping is always a good sign, from both parties. If the female remains unresponsive or "freezes" with little to no movement she may lash out and attack the male.

Good luck!
