I have a question that I feel yall will be able to answer.. What species is this?? I picked him up yesterday from someone and he/she was in a 5 gallon tank with nothing but sand and about 20 uneaten crickets. It hurt my heart so I bought him right on the spot. I think A. Seemani? But the coloration. Isn't right and the legs have white on different spots.. any input is appreciated very much! IMG_20180804_152738_369.jpg 20180804_143153.jpg 20180804_150251.jpg

Sadly his time is limited, mature males are on borrowed time in the tarantula world.

It is sad but true as well. I guess the least I can do is try to breed him. Thank you.

It has the emboli and extended tibia with the tibial hook most visible in picture 2
Ahh I see. Your help is much appreciated! Now to find him a female..

So I've had some folks on other sites, and Tom from Tom's Big Spiders, put forth the idea that it may in fact be a H. gigas. Anyone care to speculate further?

Hysterocrates_sp.___5_.jpg this is a pic of H. gigas I found on Google images. The similarity is there for sure but I most certainly do not wish to attempt a pairing with the wrong species.. that would be disastrous

Requests to identify or confirm a tarantula's species (or variation) should be uploaded in the Tarantula Identification gallery, not posted on the forum.

  1. Click the above link.
  2. Click "Add Media" (near the upper-right corner).
  3. Select "Upload an image from your files" (should be selected by default).
  4. Click "Upload Image."
  5. Select the image file on your computer or phone.
  6. Add a title (preferably including the name yo were give, if any) and description.
  7. Click "Save Media."

If you have multiple images of the same tarantula, the best way to handle that is post a comment on your first image with thumbnail links to the additional images.

How to embed images in comments (I recommend using the thumbnail option):
  1. Open the image (in Arachnoboards) that you want to embed.
  2. Copy the code in "Share BB (With Thumbnail) Code" or "Share BB GALLERY Code." (Both of these options allow the user to click the image for a link to the source.)
  3. Paste the code where you want the image to be in your comment.

"Share BB IMG (With Thumbnail) Code" results in a square preview with a link to the original:

"Share BB GALLERY Code" results in a larger preview with a link to the original:
