    Here are some fun tarantula taxonomy facts...

    The most speciose subfamily is the Theraphosinae with 522 species or 54% of the family Theraphosidae.
    The least speciose subfamily is the Selenogyrinae with 7 species or < 1% of the family Theraphosidae.

    The scientist who described the most tarantula species is Reginald Pocock of England with 98 species. Second place goes to Eugene Simon of France with 89 species.

    The year with the most tarantula species described is 1897 with 38; tied for second is 1903 and 2016 with 34.
