I was backpacking this weekend and came across this little bugger ambling across the trail. It is Either Spodros niger or S.atlantica. Both of them are a really rare spider to find in southern illinois. I just love the huge chelicerae that purseweb spiders have. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me and had to use my friends. The pics are not very clear, but now that I know they are out at this spot hopefully i'll be able to find more of them. Only 3 more species of mygales to go in illinois {D .

Enjoy,
Bobby

I would love to raise a few of these. They are pretty rare and localized though so I probably wouldn't take one home. When I go to Florida after I graduate I hope to collect a different species of purseweb down there that is really common, Sphodros abboti. I can't wait.... :}
