Was browsing the Facebook page earlier today and came across a member bragging about their find from petcos first shipment of tarantulas along with some pictures. All hope for this company is lost, we are never going to get anywhere when these scum bag vendors keep selling to then with their moronic information, they obviously don't care for the animals.

These photos are showing what ALL the animals are housed in when they arrive at the store, enclosures which Petco employees are not allowed to change, so even if they know better they can't do anything. Every specimen shoes up in these, without substrate, terrestrial, arboreal, adult or sling, all in the same style container.

Not shown is on the side of these enclosures there is a cookie cutter bad care sheet claiming to keep them at some high humidity and to feed 5 crickets a week.... For any and all the species listed.

Anyone who buys a tarantula from Petco or their vendor at this point should just leave this board, there is zero excuse to ever purchase from them.

This is depressing. Let's hope our words will change petco before the entire shipment, or at least the second wave. these are like, clear pretzel jars.. I take it the one in the last pic is heavily modified?

Yes it came from a Facebook user on the Facebook page that had purchased that poor avic earlier that day.
Take note of the list of species on the back and just think about half of those in that enclosure.

They might as well put them all in one big tank like hermit crabs.. Going to give the same result.

This is really sad. Those poor Ts.
I actually saw some of these at a local petco last week, I figured they were just temporary and/or for slings... Very disheartening to learn otherwise.

I'll spread the word of proper care and resources on my facebook and stuff.

As I noted in the Facebook thread, so I note here - the enthusiasm for the old mall pet store, Doctor Pets, waned back in the 90's as info about puppy mills and mass breeding became common knowledge. Doctor Pets is now out of business. The same can be done to large chain pet stores that fail to properly take care of their animals, if people come together on it and stop shopping there. Just stop. There is nothing you need from these shops that you cannot buy on Amazon, or locally at a better shop. There is no excuse to "rescue" a single animal from these large chains. This will sound cold and callous, but I would trade the life of every animal in these big box stores if it meant that these big box stores either went out of business, or stopped selling livestock altogether.

I saw them at my local store the other day. It was sad, they didn't have the supplies I was looking for, so I just left and won't be back except as a last resort. I certainly won't be buying any T's from them. Too many better alternatives with specialty LPS's and online sellers.

Some people seem incapable of speaking with their wallets. Their emotions get the better of them and they rescue them. Over and over. Pet store profits and sees a demand for it so they keep doing it. Yes, it sucks that some animals will needlessly suffer in the near term if they're not rescued but it helps others in the long run.

Do. Not. Rescue. Or. You. Are. Helping. Perpetuate. The. Problem.

Pet stores are there to make money. If you reward them for a poor job with money they're going to continue doing a poor job. No business has time or room for inventory that does not sell. If the spiders don't sell they won't continue to stock them. :)

Been trying to explain exactly that on the Facebook post, the ignorance is abounding
