easy roach-colony set up

ROACH'S PARADISE

A took some pix of my new roach colony and it was very easy to set up so Im posting a sequential serie with numbers to help understanding...


1 - all you need.....

3 galon aquarium
1/2 galon ice cream pot.
egg paper pack
1 piece of cotton
1 bird drinking place
1 bird eating place
vaseline
scissors
cutter ... +

200 roaches
cat / dog food
water


2 - Cut 1 big hole on each side of the ice cream pot

3 - cut the egg pack in pieces.

4 - put the pieces inside the pot

5 - well....

6 - pass athin layer of vaseline in all internal top suface (6 cm from the top)

7 - cut a small piece of cotton and stick it in the bird's water place to avoid that the roaches get inside the tube and get drown.

8 - I preffer using dry (cat / dog) food + water, intead of fruits, veggies & etc....

9 - side view

10 - from above

looks nice, never thought of that water bowl idea, I just use water crystals.

WoW!!! This is fantastic!!!! Water boli for pavrots is nonsens {D . For my in this tank is very little natural materials. Nice idea .

Second thing what isn t for me simphatyc is vazelin around the tank. Sorry of critics.

brachy... is the only way I know to avoid the roaches to climb the walls!!!

I know as some specie can clim on glass. Than I put on top of the tank glas or wood frame midle of mosquito frame. Glas is good for humbiditi.

Its really hard to keep the babies inside!

Of course, the easiest solution of all for escapes is to get NON-CLIMBING roaches... :)

Does all/most ice cream come in a plastic container in Brazil? Cute setup BTW.

one problem i have with a food dish is that the roaches can never get in or out of it b/c it's too smooth.

hi misfitsfiend, U can use a sandpaper if its plasticmade, pass it on all surface so the roaches can easily walk on it

For dry food i cut the bottom off disposable plastic cups so they have very short sides. The larger roaches spill food off the sides so the tiny nymphes can get some. I use plastic lids that are nearly flat to put produce and water crystals on (lids from sour cream/margerine tubs work well)
