I saw these awesome spiders all over Thailand (we jst bought a house in Bangkok and there is one in the back garden). I'm assuming it is some kind of orb weaver - it is about 6 inches in length and apparently they do bite but I didn't want to find out.

Anyone know what it is and whether or not it is venemous?

I don't believe any Nephila species are known to be medically significant, but they do have rather large jaws and I assume they could give a painful bite, regardless of vemom potency!

We have a native Nephila here in the US, N. clavipes, our largest orb weaver.
