Are there any "Trapdoor" tarantula species?

So i was watching a dark den video and he mentioned that he has a specie that made a trapdoor with the lid just like a true trapdoor spider. I forgot the video and the specie name. Are there multiple species that actually make trapdoors? if so, which kind? i'd love to have one

I. mira make trapdoors, but I don't have one. So I can't say for the care, etc. But i'm pretty certain someone can provide info for that.

Yep I. mira. T. seladonia makes an arboreal trapdoor, but good luck getting one of those.

I love my I. mira. They do not get large at all and make a great trapdoor. I keep mine in a setup that allows five inches of a soil mixture. I believe the dimensions of my enclosures are 8" x 8" x 10". They accept dubia, crickets. and a few other feeder insects without any issues. I usually just hold the prey item with a set of tweezers and set it right by the flap. If they are ready to feed they pop out and take it back down with them.
Don't expect to see them that much but those little blue feet are nice and bright when you do get to see them.

None of my P. lugardi have ever made trapdoors, for what it's worth.

My I. mira is a trapdoor specialist though!

Typochlaena seladonia, builds an arboreal trapdoor just like the other of its genus below
Typochlaena costae
Typochlaena amma
Typochlaena paschoali
Typochlaena curumim
Sometimes Pterinochilus lugardi though I’ve heard they don’t always build a trapdoor

These are amazing looking spiders, but you'd have a much easier time getting half a dozen Typochlaena seladonia in the US than 1 of any of these. I wouldn't be shocked to hear that some were in Europe though.

That is definitely true. As soon as the price drops on seladonia these will probably become the next 600+ dollar new species

seladonia prices are already dropping in Europe, [SPOILER ALERT] In fact I saw a Tarantula Dan video on youtube where he got one in a 1000 British pound mystery box! That makes 4 for him.

My Selenocosmia javanensis made a kind of trap door and I'm more than thrilled! I put a leaf in there full of springtails and after the springtails dispersed the spider used the leaf to close of her burrow. It attached it to the upper end of cork bark hide entrance but left the lower part unattached.

I know this is an old thread but I’m reviving because Ornithoctoninae sp Malthai is missing from this thread and they have been in the hobby since at least 2010
