My friend has multiple garbage bags full of sweet gum seed pods and I was curious if I could use them in my isopod bin. I wanted to make sure they were safe before taking some of them home. She doesn't use any pesticide and they dropped just a few months ago. I was going to bake them to kill off any pests as well

You could always try separating out some isopods and put the seed pods in with them to see what happens.

What I've seen on other sites when searching for this, they seem to be safe but I would try it with only a few isopods at first in a separate bin

General rule of thumb: all seed pods serve the purpose of protecting the seeds from depredation, usually insects. Sometimes physically, sometimes chemically, sometimes both. Better to be safe than sorry unless you have done serious research.
