Here is my most successful aquarium conversion lid. The plastic rim fixed to the aquarium has a ledge, and the lid is held down by flat head bolts which sit under the ledge. On one side these slide away from the ledge so the lid can lift off.
This is for a giant centipede, so had to be pretty secure (I can lift the empty aquarium by the lid, so that's a check) and also had to prevent me from accidentally leaving it closed but unlocked.
Unfortunately I've moved it out of there because it wasn't doing so well, so it's now unused, but I'm sure I can find another use for it, or maybe move it back in once I get a better heated cabinet.
