Hi peoples. Long time no blabber. Anyway...
A friend of mine from Cali sent me a few of his backyard spiders. Well, most he found in and around his porch. This one, he found traveling through his living room.
But anyway, long story short, he packed them up as a gift for the twins. Who adore them of course. They are kept secure and of course these are hands off. LOL.
Anyway. I have nine of them,Not sure of the species. Only that they are Latrodectus of some sort. I took pictures of two, so...If someone would give me a clue, i would appreciate it.

I didn't want to reduce the pictures anymore then I have, so that she would be clear. So here's the links.

This one the twins call Madam Blueberry.

This one, the twins call Jinx.... it was dinner time, but i hope I got clear enough pictures of her.

Greetz back'acha Joosters! Long time, though I am all over the boards,,, lurker. :p LOL
Thanks, I was thinking that, from pictures and such. But wanted to be sure. I've never kept them before and it's been years and years since I've seen one up close and personal, and that one was in formaldihyde....
There's nothing like a set of eyes that have had them to properly say sure enough, ya know?
What gave me pause with Madam Blueberry was the split hourglass. The others are pretty clean, neat and touching at the middle. Classic pattern type deal you see in the pictures. She's also a great deal larger then the others, who all range around the inch mark, she's easily over an inch. Big beasty. :)
And yes they are beautiful. Eating well.. and I have three eggsacks....
I'm thinking I should isolate those in seperate containers.
Ok, time to grab the search options and see how long I have till those sacks pop. Growth rate of the brats and all that crap. :D
Weeee!

Hi,

I agree with Joost, it should be a Mactans. You can determine the different Latrodectus species with the red hourglass on the underside at the Ophistosoma.
Latrodectus are one of the beautiest orb weaving Labidognath´s, specially L. tredecimguttatus and L. hasselti (in my opinion).
Greetings,
Sebastian :D
