I gave mine dog food, with water gel for moisture. And would toss in a sliced apple rougly every week or 2. My discoids thrived pretty well on that method over a few years. Well actually a little two well. I ended up culling most of the population after awhile.

I use the water gel.

Those are Betta splendens and often are veil tails. Theres roughly 60 types of bettas. Mo_2 is looking for a wild type.

I would suggest being careful in the community tank. Bettas being slow swimmers are prime targets for fish like zebras and barbs that are fast and commonly nip fins. I dont think tannin is harmful to bettas either. Since most betta keepers/breeders will use almond leaf extract which contains...
