Anyone know where I can order masked hunters? Or anyone got a bunch in their house they wouldnt mind rounding up and shipping me? ;)
I'd much appreciate it, and of course you'd be reimbursed on top of shipping for your troubles.
Trying to find an apartment. Finding one with 2 ferrets is hard enough. Besides, it seems a very large proportion of the female population won't step into a bedroom containing giant spiders... or maybe it's just me ;)
I have a Smithi about 3 inches, and a salmon pink birdeater about 1 inch, 2 kritter keepers and cobra heat mats, thermostats I'll throw them in all for free. The catch is you need to be in the Boston area (or willing to get here), I will not ship. PM Me.
I wonder at the psychology behind arachnophobia. The example of some guy who comes on your book bragging he'd step on them is a clear example of ignorance.
However, I've seen at least one person who when shown a picture will physically recoil and shudder. I have to wonder if there isn't...
As a newbie myself, I think a lot of these people are just impulsive.
I did a lot of research, bought the books etc before I decided on a nice, tame Smithi as my first T (granted, a baby Parahybana came with it).
Besides the whole giant, aggressive factor, during my reading it sounded...
I'm a newbie to this, never bred a T in my life.. but I thought about this idea too.
Granted few people are willing to risk this, but seems like a little time in the fridge might make the female easier for the male to handle.... or easier for someone to artificially inseminate.
This is Jose, my first T and (I believe) a male B. Smithi
He was kind of annoyed in this picture, he reached back with leg 4 on the left as if to threaten, but he didnt flick.
I have a Kricket Keeper too, and I wouldnt worry about them 'sliding'. I just put in some waterbites and gutload and dont realy worry about it. The tubes are textured in the inside, so they can hang out in there.
I gutload, mostly to keep my crickets healthy... but it is aimed for herps...
I'm a newbie and have never bred Ts, but I think you anti-crossing people are over-reacting.
If T genetics works the way mammal genetics works, different color phases might be as minimal as a gene or two and both occuring in the same sack. Of course, there is still the possibility of 'rare'...
There don't seem to be a lot of caresheets/info on trapsdoors. Can I just treat them like a T in respects to substrate and temperature/humidity?
Also, the Africans are 'medically significant'... How medically significant? Like an OBT bite, or worse? Can they climb glass?
I'm kind of a...
I'm a newbie myself but I'l say this:
In the Tarantula Keeper's Guide, Schultz recommends a 75-100% humidity for rain forest species. On page 126 he says "Most enthusiast books recommend a humidity far higher than necessary. Too high a humidity promotes growths of mld on any organic...
I have a cobra heat mat (on the side of the enclosure) hooked up to a Zoo-Med thermostat. I keep it at pretty much the bottom setting, which is 70. So far, the tarantula seems to enjoy basking in it's heat and no fires/dessication to speak of.
My only gripe is that the Zoo-Med doesnt have...
So, using the warm water technique, I got a nice molt... Sadly there doesn't seem to be any flap. My Smithi is pushing about 3 inches now, and while I can see a sort of 'ridge' indicating the furrow and a bit of color difference on either side of the furrow... No flap. I take it at around 3"...
I've got a nice exuvia from my Smithi last night, but its sort of folded over the important bits. Is there any good way to soften it up so it can be opened up without breaking?
thanks
Something odd that happened to me, I fed my 2.25" smithi some superworms. I bought them out of curiousity and when I realzied how big they were, I was a little worried.
It nailed them right away, and then took them to the water bowl. Now, I'd be ascribing a bit too much intelligence to a T...
