You hit the nail on the head for the most part... size is the main thing about these babies. I love how people gasp when they see my big female for the first time.
I also like how spunky they are. They seem to know they are big and they have the attitude to match. They dont seem to let you...
I have wanted to get Aussie tarantulas because they are something nobody can get...
lets hope some large scale CB programs down unda can produce some specimens to the pet trade!
Makes me wonder if there is some slight deformity in the T's abdomen that causes some of the skin to stick?
Just like the others I wouldnt get too bent out of shape over it... as long as the bit is coming off and your T seems healthy all should be well :)
Any T's with white on them I would assume (which is why your teeth glow in a nightclub) apart from that I cant think of amy T's that glow...
On the other hand... nearly every scorpion glows under blacklight... could that be what you are thinking of?
I am now getting to admire a gorgeous new GBB and 2 cute little H. Spinifer babies bred by the man himself! (Traded for 2 incoming C. fasciata and future considerations ;) )
Dave and his better half braved heavy rains and crappy traffic to make a trip down to Ottawa to deliver the critters...
My chaco has been a wierdo lately too... she is jumpy and nervous unlike her usual coma-like self. I think she has been watching the avics too much as well because she spends all her time on the side of her tank now too.
I cant see anything wrong with the substrate... it was fine for her for...
Damn... I wish I had thought of that before I threw her out :(
I wanted to get her out ASAP in case of an infestation... there is no guarentee that they killed her (might have just had a bad molt) but it sure looks suspicious when they are in between the new and old skins!
My C. Paganus has met an untimely death...
My little demon tried to molt and apparently had a parasite problem. I am almost certain she was a WC specimen as I got her from a pet shop about 8 months ago.
I never noticed any parasites on her or anywhere in her cage before... and I have...
I am also a big fan of the kritter keepers. I like that they are cheap, as well as durable and perfectly suited to keep T's in.
I also use a lot of clear rubbermaid storage boxes. I have some great ones that have windows on the lids too!
The only trouble I have had with paper towel is that is goes mouldy/musty really easily.
As long as you are diligent about changing it every other day you should be ok.
It sounds like stress to me... take out the cricket and leave your spider alone for a couple of days in a dark place.
Only disturb it to check on it ONCE A DAY.
The most common mistake I see people making is that they fuss over their spider when it really only wants to be left alone to rest.
It requires a lot of patience.
I used to keep the bunch in an ice cream container then when I wanted some I would pour one or two out into a pill vial... then you can shake them out of the vial into your T's residence.
The other suggestions work very well too.
I find the art to feeding dead prey is all in the presentation... try and make it seem alive.
When I drop the prey item about 3 inches in front of the spider they pounce on it 9 times out of 10. They seem to love their ambushes :)
Actually folks... too late!
The snakehead is infested all over the northern states and even here in Canada. They are really destructive to the ecosystem in that they clean out a lake then walk over to the next one.
They are catching them in droves at the dam near here.
Well all of my asian species have been true to the reputation... they are both nutcases.
My Lividium takes any chance she can get to try and intimidate me. There is nothing she loves more than to come flying out of her burrow in a threat position and take numerous strikes at me... and this...
