    Size of B. annitha

About the same as smithi - it's not even really clear if they are different species. My adult female is around 6 inches and she's about 6 years old.

    A. bicoloratum FINALLY ate!!!

They never seem to eat... I had two adult females and still have one of those beautiful spiders (traded one away) and I have to say that both of them eat rather seldom. they will gorge themselves after a molt until they are pretty plump... and then... nothing. I kept the older female (she's...

    l parahybana

No, you don't need to - just let the water dish overflow a bit when you refill, so that a small part of the substrate gets moist. mine will occasionally hover over that moist area, but most often she's on the dry side of the tank.

    Terraristikahamm Expo 11.12.2010 (Germany)

Yes they do, in Germany :}. Actually the writing on the box says that it's a 2,5 year old, captive bred, confirmed female. They are a readily available species over here and prices have dropped dramatically over the last year... 165 euro (around 195 $) is actually pretty steep for a small...

    A. Versicolor enclosure idea

I don't think you even need to block any of those holes - avics ime do best with very good ventilation. They also don't need a high humidity per se - as the exoscelleton is impenetrable to humidity. I've never had an Avic die on me (and I've had plenty and even bred them) and I kept them...

    RIP Squirt.

Hey, sorry for your loss. I've raised a few avis - even had a few sacs - and never lost a single one to "sudden sling death". ok, some died, but there was always an obvious reason, like weak first instars who got cannibalized by their stronger brethren. I have no scientifically proved...

Are crickets sufficient for large Ts?

17 years of crickets... IME, adult ts can get by on crickets alone very well, provided you gutload the crickets properly before feeding them to your t. Why I know so well? Because I have a 17-years-old L. parahybana who is HUGE - and still refuses to take ANY other prey. I got her nearly 10...

    3D Tarantula

Hey guys, Have you seen the interactive tarantula at http://www.onemotion.com/flash/spider/? If not, klick, it's not half bad coding! Now to my problem: That's not the interactive T I'm looking for! It really isn't, no Jedi mindtricks here... There is a cooler version of it that I lost...

    Worried about my Lasiodora, opinions?

yeah, but 6 weeks seems excessive - she has always eaten about 3 weeks after a molt. plus, there is the fact that she used to molt every 2.5 years and has now molted after only a year (without apparent damage to trigger the molt). so, anyone with experince concerning old lasiodoras? i'm...

    Worried about my Lasiodora, opinions?

Hi all, I've had a L. parahybana for nearly 9 years now. She's about 15 years old (got her as an adult) and has molted about every 2 - 2,5 years in my care (hardly gaining any size at all). Surprisingly, she molted again a few weeks ago. It's been hardly a year since her last molt, so this...

I'm back in the hobby (with pics;))

Thanks for the welcome back! And yes, I'm the author of the 'Pimp my tank' article . I think difficilis as well, because to my knowledge no other Lasiodora gets that bluish-grey colour after molting. It's simply too light-coloured and too fuzzy to be a klugi. Just wanted to get a second...

I'm back in the hobby (with pics;))

So, all I really wanted to say was: I'm back and I'm happy about it! I'll get a few more probably, though I'm trying to limit myself to rational numbers :o. Maybe I'll even get pokies again... So, just in case my question gets lost between all those pics: What species of Lasiodora do you...

I'm back in the hobby (with pics;))

I got: an adult female A. bicoloratum for 30 bucks, a subadult female G. actaeon for 60 bucks (that promptly molted and is now an adult), an adult female rosehair for 20 Bucks (ok, that was not cheap, but she's cb and the only one that doesn't mind being handled) an adult female lasiodora...

I'm back in the hobby (with pics;))

Anyway, they lifted the bann on pokies again, but I was too frustrated to get into the hobby again. Until recently someone offered me a few ts at a good price. They're nws too, so I didn't think long, and I'm back! That is my setup for now:

I'm back in the hobby (with pics;))

Hello all, I've been an arachnoboards member forever, but I havn't postet in years. The reason: I as good as gave up the hobby. And now I'm happy to be back! {D A bit of background info: I bought my first t back in 2001, after a breakup with my arachnophobic boyfriend. After only a few nw...

    Lifespan topic

I've had an avicularia metallica female live for 9 years with me - and I got her as an adult! So you shouldn't discount avics as too short lived. But neither will they live to their potential of at least 12 years when fed too heavily. My l. parahybana is now 13 years old. there were 2 years...

Maintaining specific humidity in WET weather

hi, as i'm from germany, we seldom have such problems. however, we moved to a new appartment recently and it's in a newly built house where there is still some condensation. so our humidity was very high as well and we solves the problem by using those big moisture absorbers you get at drug...

just bought my first T' O.O!

i really wouldn't use damp peat moss - brachypelma and grammostola both like it dry. keep the substrate (peat is fine) dry except for a small moist area around the water dish and refill the waterdish regularly. that is better for your t.

    What are the odds?

the odds are good - molting tarantulas spread a certain pheromone that helps other ts along if they are anywhere near a molt. this works fine with slings, happens much rarer with adult ts due to the much longer molting cicles.
