Could be fungus gnats. I get them in the potting soil I buy. They don't need much moisture. They don't bother anything, just a little annoying.

My little N.chromatus was teeny tiny too. One thing I noticed was it liked to stay on the side of the enclosure which I had misted. This tells me it likes it a little humid. Just my experience. Also mine did not like live prey. It took meal worm parts pretty well.

I raised a tiny N.chromatus which absoultely refused live prey on prekilled pinheads and pieces of mealworms. It actually seemed to like the mealworms best. It is hard to tell if it is eating the mealworms because it seemed to eat from the open wound and left the casing. Just watch it's abdomen...
Conditions like that add a lot of fuel to the "anti everything" people!
You would think that a businessman or woman would want to present their marketable items in the most pleasing light. That just makes me sick!

I grind mine in a coffee bean grinder and check daily. I feed a lot of fruits and veggies. I have also found that my B.dubia LOVE fish flake food, which I had heard from roach breeders was not usually the case.

Boy do I understand about the wife!
But as far as infestation, the only feeder roach that I am aware of that poses an infestation potential is B.lateralis. This opinion is based quite a bit on your location also.
