    Mars & venus

I was reading through someone's breeding reports ( I don't remember whose) and there were several records of the male eating the females. Of course, these were vastly out-numbered by the females who ate males, and even by entries where no one was eaten, but it does happen. Individual temperment...

    Help!!!

Could it be that in the past the sunbean gave her the extra heat she needed? I can't think of any other reason why the sun would have helped. If it is another difficult moult perhaps more heat is the answer. Not just warmth, but lots of heat. Could the body fluids and lubrication for a moult be...

    A.seemanni and toad

Just an interesting point; toads live in many kinds of burrows because they like the moisture and darkness. We can talk about mutualism, but it's really just mere tolerance. Toads live in ground squirrel burrows, marmot burrows, just about any kind of burrow, really. As intriguing as it could...

    Distilled water vs. undistilled

The main reason why it would be labelled that way is because distillation does not remove certain volatile organic chemicals and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Before distilled water is safe for consumption, it should be followed by solid carbon filtration. That's why the distilled water is not in...

    Secret No More... COSTALE

Reminds me of the member with the location: "redneck central where family trees don't branch" Who is that? Lovely haps, BTW. Would be nice to see more of them around, inbred or not. Tamara

    Methods of Misting T's?...

I mist the air of the tank of my genic, but I don't do it so much as to let the substrate get wet. I keep moist cloths on the screen lid, and this has let me keep the humidity high with dry substrate. She does have a water dish, which she nevers does enything with except drink from it (no...

    Fruit Fly control?

Heya I run a restaurant and lounge, and in the heat of the summer the cut limes and fruit always attract fruit flies. The best way I know of to keep their numbers down is to put out a glass with about a 1/2 oz of red wine in it (rye whiskey also works). This doesn't actually solve the problem...

    City fogging for misquetos[sp?]

Oh, and for the effect on wildlife, well, probably all arthropods will be affected much like mosquitos and Ts. Fogging likely kills many commercially valuable species of insects. As well, birds and other animals may ingest the chemicals before they breakdown. I don't know the effects on birds...

    City fogging for misquetos[sp?]

Probably they are fogging with malathione or maybe parathione. These are organophosphates. Overall, they are less dangerous than the organochlorides, since they break down into less harmful chemicals within weeks of their use (organochlorides like DDT, Endrin, and Aldrin are the big problem...

    Calgary anyone?

Well, there's at least 2 of us in Edmonton, and Pencapchew is in Calgary. There's a Canadian forum which you can view if you ask the mods to show it for you. I don't know if you can view the following link without being permited into the Canadian forum. But once you're on, check out this link...

    Blondi vs Mouse

;) Good idea! You've designed a better mouse trap! (Well, you get credit for the shoebox part. I think Mother Nature officially gets credit for the mechanism ;P {D )

    Pinhead Cricket Question

How big are the slings? Maybe try maggots instead. You can get plenty of them at fishing stores. If your slings are really small then a maggot is too big and scary for them, but you can chop maggots in half and the slings should love them. Tamara

    Pesticides

I think that's not the whole truth. Some pesticides target some species and not others, so an apparently healthy insect may not be safe to ingest by another animal. Furthermore, insects that thrive in areas that are sprayed may be resistant to the pesticide. Resistance is a major problem, and it...

Are you sure he ruled out Ischnocolus? Perhaps holosericeus? Or maybe andalusiacus? Those are both in Europe, but I cannot find much about andalusiacus. Tamara

In post 41 he says it's not a Psalmopoeus. The ocular arrangement is sure distinct. What genera have that arrangement other than Nhandus? Tamara

    Can anyone ID this

Don't laugh at my guesses! I think each of these is possible, but I'm leaning towards the insubtilis. Citharacanthus livingstoni Acanthoscurria insubtilis, male, pre-moult Tamara
