    Western Black Widow

cacoseraph is right. don't overfeed, or keep too warm and they will live up to about 3 years. i had a couple that lived that long. they are better off if you forget about them for about a month at a time. overfeeding or watering them will kill them. anyone have experiences with longevity of...

    Holed up slings

i noticed this same behaviour with my G aureo, but it was bigger so there was somewhat less worrry. still, don't worry, this is what they do. make sure that it get moisture so that it can hydrate, and so that it can molt easily. it'l be fine! it's agonizing waiting for them.

    Sling's home just got flooded

make sure that you have enough ventilation in the container so that you don't get mold growth and so that it can dry out.

New Housing for a T. Blondi. GOOD??

Grammastola aureostriata. i loved my Chaco Golden Knee, but it was a male, so gave it away for mating. they grow fairly fast, they are big, not aggressive usually, eat well, and are very pretty.

New Housing for a T. Blondi. GOOD??

I also don't recommend a T blondi for a first tarantula. they can be nasty. however, they are very cool spiders. as for the setup, there are a couple of concerns. T blondi is an opportunistic burrower, not really a digger, so you need to pretty much make its retreat for it. It will not...

    Megaphobema Robustom?

i only had my M robustum for a short while, but i saw it out a lot. never saw it eat, but all the food dissappeared right away, so it seemed vital. it was very skittish, very defensive and very fast. it makes an interesting threat display too - turns around and sticks its butt in the air -...

    Lost L. parahybana!!!!!

Grrrr! Kritter Keepers GRRRRRR! I think it is common knowledge among Ts by now to look for those little holes that become available when the handles are removed! The very same thing happened to me with a 1/2" A purpurea sling. I had taped or hot-glued all the holes, but i forgot the holes...

    Bothriocyrtum californicum

the calif trapdoor is definitely a world apart from the red trapdoors seen commonly in the trade. those fellas will nip you given half a chance. I love trapdoors and I always marvel at their engineering. I only wish that i could watch them eat sometimes. I like the idea of pasting the...

    water bowl bad treatment!

you almost had the solution. if you glue a plastic deli cup in the corner (even partially below grade is fine), then you just set a clean, water-filled, deli cup into it. that way, T can't knock it over or mess with it, but it is easy to replace. my Ts then fill them with dirt. i haven't...

    Latrodectus (Theridiidae) Picture Thread

L mirabilis? well, my L mirabilis (?) produced an egg sac! however, this creates a quandry. i thought maybe she had one more molt, although she looked mature, and she mated readily. reportedly, she was to turn mostly black when mature - NOT! I love the design though! check out...

Thanks Steven. I've got to move this weekend. Can you give me a hand? And bring your pickup? LOL anyway, here are the pics of the L revivensis webbing/retreat that i promised - to compare/contrast with the L corallinus webbing in the previous post. i had to do some image balancing, so...

    Latrodectus bishopi pattern variation

the bishopi with the all-black abdomen reminds me of what has happened with my bishopi stock. here is the mother of all my bishopi babies. I mated her with her sibling (both from Jordan) and produced lots of spiderlings. as you can see, she has very little white around her red...

corallinus color morph slings Below are pics of L corallinus "alicia" slings. Notice the revivensis-like canopy in the web. they hang out under the canopy and have no separate retreat that i can see. I can't wait to see what the coloration will look like on these guys.

    Latrodectus (Theridiidae) Picture Thread

new construction is much better as far as sealing cracks and such, and that makes it much harder for the ants. as i renovate areas of my 1930s house, i seal up everything as tight as i can and i makes a big difference. we have no real baseboards originally, so they come up mostly through the...

    Latrodectus (Theridiidae) Picture Thread

they are small black ants, about 3/32" long. yes, they cross our house in giant superhighways when they locate something they want. it takes them about an hour or less to completely take over and area. we made it through the weekend with no ant attacks. i was out of town and was...

    Latrodectus (Theridiidae) Picture Thread

this is off-topic now, but i can't resist. i use the water barrier method a lot (for out cat food too). i could not keep my roach colony without putting it on stilts sitting in water. i also use the boric acid barrier method and boric acid bait (mixed with powdered sugar). the water is...
