I'll be feeding Vinegaroons, 3/4 inch and 3 inches. So if I have a reproducing roach colony, there will be smaller roaches fit to feed the small Vinegaroon. There are several feeder roaches being sold on the web. Does anyone have a preference or advice for choosing a species?
I'm heading to college, and I have a very "storable" mealworm colony that I feel confident will do fine, so long as I keep quiet about it. However, I never hear of anyone feeding anything solely on mealworms, so what other feeder insects may be stored easily and require very little care...
Last summer I mated a couple of Vinegaroons and documented the whole long process. The mating occurred in female's tank and it was filled with five or six inches of dirt from her environment. She tunneled incessantly through it, and ate well, but about a month after mating, she dropped dead. The...
Hey, I've picked up a number of fully-grown M. giganteus in the past who have made there way into the house and last night I finally ventured to take a look for them outdoors. Interestingly, while nearly all the Vinegaroons found in the house were large, I found several yearlings and no large...
I posted this a few months ago, but I've since then forgotten what this spider is, and I can't find the thread in the archives. Anyway, its a jumper about a centimeter long, I found it in my house last fall, and I live near Chicago. Black with three orange markings on its body, two dots and a...
I found a spider in my kitchen. It looked pretty cool, so I snatched it into a nice clear container. I have no pictures of it yet, and have no knowledge about spiders at all. It is about one cm long, built squarely. It seems to have a sturdy body, not a long, lanky one. It is black with some...
Yeah. They should stay out of the house. Solifugids numb your flesh while you're asleep and eat chunks out of your. That's why so many soldier come home from Iraq with amputations. But I'm careful with mine. I keep them in a steel cabinet, with a key and combination lock. And I keep the cabinet...
I have to change the paper towel the eggs are on because mold is growing, and today the second female died. I wonder if extracting the eggs would be worthwhile. Should I go for it?
The female that produced the clutch died today. Eggs are still incubating, 6th day. The other female hasn't gotten larger (Not eating), and no more eggs have shown up scattered around the container since the first three.
I have had a pair of African Blacks for a year now that, when not eating or sleeping, mate. They mate constantly but I have yet to see any babies. Is it that the babies are dieing after hatching? What are the most common causes of this? I have them in coconut substrate, keep it somewhat moist...
I caught them in New Mexico, so these aren't the monsters of the Mid East that devour sleeping soldiers :wicked: They are a different variety than I've caught before in NM, and they're a little smaller. They get 2 inches long max.
Stupid question. I just put the eggs on a moist paper towel in a 7x7 inch container. There are 110-120 eggs. One is small and brown-dead. Four are the same size as the others but are clear rather than creamy. Are these too unfertilized but haven't darkened?
Hm... Registered on venomlist, did some searches.. No luck, and I'm concerned as to what to do with the eggs. For now I'll leave them where they were deposited until I know what to do.
