    An Exciting Discovery!

I think I remember reading about that, Belle. Thanks for the commendation. It's pretty thrilling.

    An Exciting Discovery!

I know the pic is freaking terrible, but if you look above the black dots of substrate in her web, between the dark stripes that are her legs, you can see the dense white of the sac. Just use your imagination! :p

    An Exciting Discovery!

My female versicolor has been doing a fair amount of spinning recently, which is uncommon for her. Disappeared into the bottom of her newly constructed tube yesterday. Checked on her late in the night to find this: Haven't checked my logs, but I'm fairly certain its only been about a...

    Colony or no colony?

While I have no personal experience with it, I fear you have to make all "all or nothing" decision. I will explain why, from the many posts I (and possibly you as well) have read: I am with the group in saying I believe it to be a worthwhile venture. If you have the sacmates on hand, It just a...

    Who molted today?

Checked on one of my spiders today, and where there was a normal Pokie colored tarantula yesterday, there is now a much leggier, fuzzier, and extremely RED one in its place! Long story short, just a couple weeks until Pokie pairing time!

PLEASE!......Tell me I have an upcoming molt lol

While there are differences in most adult Pokie coloration, may are very similar. Sure, its easy to pick out a rufilata or metallica from a regalis. Without seriously close examination, try vitatta versus striata. Now that's a challenge. So Curious Jay makes a very valid point.

When should I feed my spiderling after molting.

A good rule of thumb is to wait until you see the spider out of or at the entrance to its hide. Before that, there is a good chance it does not feel ready to subdue prey.

PLEASE!......Tell me I have an upcoming molt lol

Now the spider is starting to darken up. Should see a molt in the not too distant future.

    B. vagans Growth Rate.

Wow... I just got back into the hobby around the time you picked up that tiny spider. Started with an OBT around the same size, a 2.5" P. irminia and a 2.5" LP. QWuuickly picked up many more spiders, and am now up to about 55 T's. NOTHING I have has grown anywhere near that fast, with the...

my neighbour really is as dumb as she looks

Agreed... I'm fortunate enough to have a few friends that take interest in my passion. For the most part, I test people by answering a question or two. Once I notice their eyes glazing over after just a few seconds of my response, I know to avoid the topic like the plague.

    What Have You Learned?

+1 on catch cup... I was rehousing P. vittatas WITH a catch cup at the ready. Still had one go up my arm, over my neck, down my back, around my leg... and Pokie pose in a fold in the bottom of my pants.

    First official baby

I was surprised to see how small O. species "Panay blue" were at 2nd instar as well. Most of my eight are only a tad over 1/4".

    My "Spider Mill"

For those who don't have rooms set at temps quite that high, you could simply add a high quality aquarium heater to the sterilite tub.

    My "Spider Mill"

Looks like he used PVC fittings on analog rotary light timers. Fairly ingenious.

    Re-housing after a molt.

I believe it is very rare for the exos to mold, so that wouldn't be a concern for me. Enclosure is a bit on the small side, so a rehousing is probably a good idea. However, I definitely wouldn't rush it. This is just my preference, but I usually wait for the spider to harden and take a good...

    First Pairing!

Made my 2nd pairing a few nights ago Thanks to a fellow member here, I finally acquired a MM versicolor to pair with the female I picked up an expo a couple months back. Both were very cooperative and the pairing looked to be successful. They locked up twice for several minutes, and he was able...

Yes, that is what I meant. It was early, and I was in a rush to leave for work. Thanks for the clarification.

    whoah!

That I am aware of, this is NOT something that has been described. Have not read of any species of tarantula that has silk glands in their opisthosoma. Definitely continue to monitor your spider. Would be interesting to know exactly what you were seeing.

    damon diadema hides?

Just my two cents... if you keep many exotics at all, it makes much more sense to purchase cork bark in bulk. There are several sites that sell Zoo Med's brand in a 15 lbs box. It only costs about $80, and if you buy the small, will cover all your pet's needs for some time to come.

Avics are my new favorite genus

Completely agree. It's too bad care sheets are so misleading. IME, there's not a species out there that needs to be sprayed several times a week. Doing that always leads to problems that could have been prevented with more moderate conditions. A TON of great spiders going kaput because of new...
