    Pets or Collection

Its just a collection for me, no attachment. I view them as fascinating pieces of wildlife from around the world.

    Drinking

I notice my terrestrials will drink from water dishes whereas my arboreals and fossorials do not, or at least are much more secretive about it. I have 5 P. Irminia juveniles, and all of them will only drink from substrate or off of the side of the enclosure despite full water dishes. :/

    Poecilotheria metallica variations

So does that mean you could end up with more than one color form from the same sack? Or would that take two different color form parent specimens to get that?

    The exterminator is coming soon.

I'd take them out of the apartment for an extended period of time. If you don't, you may see some of them ill or worse. I don't even spray air freshener in my T room, or store any chemicals or refrigerant drums in there, simply not worth the risk.

    Phormictopus sp.purple, classification question

I have two sp. Purple sub adult females (were sold as sp Purple anyway), and both look exactly like Cancerides. I also have 3 juvenile sp Purple, and all 3 have different coloration on their legs than my two supposed sub adult females. Regarding cautus, I messaged Paul Becker about those, he...

OBT BITE!! Nerve block at ER - a lifesafer

You're making it sound like his OBT escaped and bit a Senator. Draw down on the drama here. All this does is make people hesitant to make bite reports, and that prevents potentially helpful information from reaching other people.

Overnight shipping vs. 2-3 day shipping?

I always use overnight shipping, mainly because I'm around in the mornings, but not the afternoons. Just the guarantee that it will be delivered by a certain time is worth the money for me. Plus I buy 5-10 spiders at a time, so the cost isn't all that bad if I'm already spending 3 or 4 hundred...

    Vaping around your ts.

I'd err on the side of caution. I don't store any chemicals for anything in my T room either, except for pH neutral glue I use to make hides.

    PetSmart corporate policy

While the intent has merit- you pretty much nailed it, nothing will happen. Even if over a thousand people signed a petition, that wouldn't even amount to one line of text on a post-it note memo to a low level VP on a wednesday morning. It would be more effective to just offer kind advice to...

How long were you in the hobby before getting bit?

I've been collecting for close to 15 years, never been bit. Anticipating a jump or a bolt, and only using tongs/paintbrushes for physical interaction (like rehousing/maintenance) has always kept me a step ahead.

Fingers crossed...MM trying to molt again

Is there any truth to MM's who survive a postultimate molt no longer having their emboli? I read that a while back in another thread, but I've never seen pictures. Nevertheless, it left me very curious.

    Pet Store Disappointment

As big of a bummer as pet stores can be, they still provide a bridge between the hobby and an arachnid enthusiast that just doesn't know it yet. I bought a rose hair from a pet store almost 15 years ago. I have over 150 T's now, but definitely would not have any had I not seen them at the...

How often do you check on T's

Usually no less than once a day for me. I do maintenance about every 2-3 days (watering, removing boluses, etc), but I enjoy the flashlight tour once or twice a night. I have some rehousing to do this weekend, and new arrivals coming Tuesday, so I'll be in my T room for a decent amount of time...

    Nhandu cromatus agility

NW's can surprise a lot of people when they sense danger. Hopefully this guy learned a lesson about opening multiple enclosures. I always approach each enclosure like a jail break will be attempted.

Anyone been bitten by a T while it's walking on you?

That might be my favorite story I've read on here. Who would have thought all my transfers would have gone so much more smooth with Chilobrachys and Poecs if I just sang some calm folk songs during the transfer!

    Bit!

Quite frankly I'm surprised you're even still alive.

    This the norm or extreme

You can get a cb Stirmi sling for around $70 now. They get just as big (some speculate even bigger) as Blondi and are not as demanding when it comes to how they are kept.

    Lethargic death ?

I've had a few lethargic T's that just couldn't find the water dish in the week or so after a molt. One thing I tried was putting a second water dish right in front of them, that seemed to work. Of course as the above poster mentioned, if its a response to chemicals, who knows what will...

    Cecil the Lion

Firing at someones feet (even without intending to hit them) counts in the eyes of the law as attempting to shoot them. No, he wouldn't have been charged with something insane like attempted murder, because his intent was to intimidate, so most likely aggravated assault. Still against the law...

    Cecil the Lion

So you discharged a weapon at a person and committed kidnapping....in a story where the point was being "responsible." I'm having a very hard time believing this. You would have been arrested if it went down that way.
