2nd feeding=violent end for squeeking pinkie ;P
So the little guy will stay for a bit...err girl (checked and yep). Got a few pinpricks on my fingers but noticably chilled from first date. ;)
I'll probably do fish on occasion but I get my live rodents from a couple that raises hundreds for the burms and retics they breed, I like to stay away from petstore feeders (including fish) as much as possible. My only exception is crickets for my inverts and smaller geckos.
Alright thanks guys. I did read you can switch them, and that they can be easier than some to, I just needed to know that if it manages to happen that it would be a healthy diet, (for example hognoses can not live healthy on just rodents). I managed to find a little one (around 9 inches) doing...
Nerodia taxispilota (Brown Watersnake)
I know this is an aquatic snake that normally feeds on amphibians and fish, however would feeding one rodents be a substantial diet? They do range from water to miles inland, so its resonable to think that they do get warmblooded prey from time to time...
Aye I agree, elvis the larger gator in my pics is a rescue from people keeping him in a tub, he can hardly hold himself up when he walks due to the stunting he experienced, its very sad. Snakes I'm a little different on when it comes to people owning them, simply because feeding/space...
There are also dwarf crocs but good luck getting one of those! I personally hate seeing american alligators in the pet trade...a 15'+ animal that eats human size meals to survive doesn't belong in someones house...Hell the enclosuer they need should be larger than a house! But for smaller...
Haha, tell me about it...Jumping into a flooded residential drainage ditch to catch a 10' bull in heat isn't everyone's idea of a swell evening, but it sure beats a desk job! {D
Deffinately through mating displays and social hierarchies. Only thing though is we have a lot more information and contact with monitors than crocs and there is a lot less danger involved with working with mature adults for most species of monitors when compared to larger croc sp. so we don't...
Hmm...Not sure...I know studies have shown that monitors can count to about 6 (If I remeber right)...Probably about equal, but where monitors are inquisitive crocodylians seem more layed back.
No problem at all. And remember sometimes they'll act like they can eat a whole horse and sometimes they just wont be interested, its fine to skip a day if thats the case, just dont let them gourge for obvious reasons; don't want em obese!
They deff. have personalities though, theres...
Hah yeah caimans are the talkers of the lot. I fed the last caimans I delt with crikets everyday until they were about 2 feet long...reasonable amounts of course, with some fish every couple of days. They always liked weekly pinkie as well. Just keep it in sesible amounts and varied and you'll...
First off, great lookin little one youve got there! These guys are a whole lot of fun (the store I used to work at carried these and specleds, and I work with american alligators all the time). Nice clean looking mouth as well.
Now for the enclosure...Decent temporary tank (believe me I've...
They like to climb and dig, so keep that in mind. Keep the substrait semi-moist (think dirt in souther pineforest) and at least half as deep as the animals body excluding the tail. Some dig more than others but its good to cover your bases. grapeving and large but secure rocks are great for...
No problem at all, part of the hobby is learning about the T's and peoples experiences with them :)
Haha and it is from being born and raised in florida. Here in VA we're getting 60-70 degree weather and I still wear a jacket outside, I don't like it temperate in my house I like it tropical...
Aye I did it went through...hmm 5 molts around there while I had it so it wasn't a 2nd instar.
Doing a quick search on growth rate for these T's though on this site you'll get very mixed responses though it seems to be pretty much agreed that they are very food abunance dependant on growth...

Like I said it was already at the 2 inch mark when I first got her, still young as far as I know however it was a petstore animal and theres no telling if it had been delayed/slowed in anyway, though yes it didn't take long at all for me to reach that size. It molted first month, then...
Took her around a year to get that big for me at room temp eating about 3 times a week.
Thanks for the compliments guys!
I always hear how shy these are around lights, yet she has never seemed to be bothered by them, just quick movements (which nothing likes).
Hmm...I would put her at around 4-5 inches (5 being a little liberal) full spread out. She's quite quick so getting good measurments is hard, though she can sit in the palm of my hand with a little overhang.
