Who has been pooped on by an avic?

my A. avic hasn't pooped on me but i've seen her sling poo in her cage. It's kind of cute in a way. She come out of her tube web, sticks her butt up in the air, fires away, then goes back inside her web.

    PetsMart vs Petco

Well, if you ask me, they both suck, but i think we all know that. If I had to pick one over the other i would say Petsmart because they are a little cheaper and i just find that their stores are generally cleaner. Just yesterday i was looking for a tank for a snake I was about to adopt (Just...

    Height for C. cyaneopubescens

So what you are saying is they webbed the area without the plants? That seems odd to me. I would have thought they would use the plants as a starting point for building a webtunnel because of the protection the leaves might provide. I've got a little one in a deli cup right now. It's webbed up...

Where 2 buy foam 4 custom "foamarium"?

It's nice to have options for the original foamariums, but i would still prefer to make a custom one. I would prefer a taller/deeper base so i don't have to use so much substrate to prevent a dangerous fall if the T were to try and climb the glass. I would also like to make a more elaborate burrow.

Where 2 buy foam 4 custom "foamarium"?

I've used the dry version of the florists foam and it sucks. It works fine as far as carving and shaping, but it leaves a green dust everywhere. My smithi had green dust all over her legs and butt. The water absorbing version looks slightly better but i think it still leaves some green dust.

Where 2 buy foam 4 custom "foamarium"?

Where to buy foam for custom "foamarium"? I'm dying to be able to make my own "foamarium" for my B. Smithi and future adult T's. Problem is i can't find any place that sells aquarium foam in big enough blocks (10"x20"x5"). Anyone know of a place to buy some foam like that? I did find one web...

How Dangerous is Stress to Tarantulas?

You don't really, you can only guess. There is no way to actually measure stress, whether it's in humans or T's. I'll even bet that there really isn't any scientific study that can prove that a T that is often stressed will live a shorter life. It just seems too hard to actually test, especially...

    Spiders catch themselves

Black widows are very common in many parts of the United States. If you live in the right area, you are likely to find widows hiding in all sorts of dark places, coming out for food and web maintainence at night. I have a black widow right now that I found in my room. She built her web from my...

    Gutload Experiment

I'm gonna try and bump this thread back to the front again. I'm very interested in how the T's are doing at this point in time. Perhaps some pics to compare the two groups?

Some of the newer AVS books are geat. Easy for a novice to pick up get info quickly. TONS of great photos. PLus plenty...

    Need names!

Hate Snowball and Mittens. LOVE George and Mr. Pinchy. Looney Toons and the Simpsons, it doesn't get much better than that. What was the name of Homers pet monkey?

    Tarantulas in movies?

That other "guy" is actor Alfred Molina in one of very early roles. If you don't know him by name, you should know him as Doc Oc in Spider Man 2. Also, i think Daddy Day Care with Eddie Murphy has a T. I haven't seen it but i remember there being one in the Trailers.

    ARRGH!! MITES i HaTe ThEm!!

You can get ladybugs at many garden supply stores and nurseries. Don't know if this is a west coast only thing but OSH carries lady bugs as well as mantid eggs. Pet mantids for only a few bucks ;-) EDIT: oops, didn't see that you aren't from the U.S. hehe, you probably won't find an OSH in your...

    got a new T

That's a foamarium. The guy who made them went out of business. Supposidly he will still make custom ones if you want. There is a fish store close to where i live that actually has two left. One is a 10 gal the other is a 20 gal. I would like a 10 gallon one myself but i want one that is a...

    Distilled water vs. undistilled

That's what i was thinking. If distilled water were so dangerous they probably wouldn't be selling it in the "drinking water" isles in super markets and the labels wouldn't say "drinking water" either.

    Sling feeding Frequency?

A couple months ago i got a C. cyanopubescens sling which is about 3/4" right now. I also just bought a tiny 1/4" A. versicolor sling on Sunday. I was first feeding the GBB sling small crickets but have now moved to smaller sized medium crickets. I give it 2 of those a week on average. The versi...

    Distilled water vs. undistilled

OK, i'm not sure i got a straight answer after all those posts ;-) I always have a water dish in my T enclosures and i keep it filled with tap water. I also use some water conditioner to remove the chlorine. Is this a bad idea? I live in Los Angeles and we have pretty high levels of Chlorine...

    Distilled water vs. undistilled

Does a Tarantula need undistilled water to drink from? I know many people including myself use distilled water in their misting bottles because it does not leave mineral deposits on the glass of tanks, but is it any less beneficial for a T to drink from this water opposed to your standard...
