Cal King From 3 Nights Ago

Morbid, it's actually the Sonora Mountain Kingsnake (Lampropeltis pyromelana). You would have to drive to them since they are not found in your area. I take it you would probably need a license to collect them too. If you find one, let me know. David

Cal King From 3 Nights Ago

No secrets to finding them. You just have to be at the right place at the right time. As far as the Cal Mountain King goes, depending on where you found it, they are illegal to capture and own (I believe it's west of the 5 freeway from Orange to LA counties). David

    For You Gecko Lovers

This is the Mediterranean House Gecko (Hemidactylus turcicus). It is an invasive species in Southern California and has populations in certain areas, but not here. Found this one on a dirt road. The pros said it was an interesting find due to the fact that these guys hang out on the sides of...

Long-Nose Snake, "Clarus" phase, and VERY Gravid

OK, here's a Long-Nosed Snake (Rhinocheilus lecontei), "Clarus" phase. She is VERY gravid. Found her on patrol a few weeks back. By the way, "Clarus" phase is when there is little to no red pigment showing on the scales. They are somewhat rare to encounter. Snake was removed from road and placed...

    A chance morning encounter.

Beautiful pics. I agree with the one article about human related changes in the landscape. Anytime you set an area for agriculture or urban development, you are going to affect a lot more than just turtles. Thank God for Nature Reserves. David
