Thanks, great shots, but I need to be able to see more of the spider, not just legs. I can never seem to be able to tease mine out of her hole. If you get a chance to snap a pic of yours when she's mostly out, that would be great (I know, I know, I'm asking the impossible!)
The final picture...
I'm looking for a photograph of an H. lividum to be used as part of the artwork on an album cover.
The spider needs to be either climbing up out of something (like a tunnel) or climbing over something towards the camera. A threat pose while doing this would be good too.
And, of course, I'd...
I'd say don't worry about the sex at all because you WILL be getting more!!!!
Especially if you keep reading this board. You will not be able to help it. You will have no will of your own.
. . . and you're bound to end up with some females. Cheers.
.
Were you able to sex 'her' from that molt, ovaforty? I have one the same size, and by a recent molt it looks male, but I'm hoping it's too small to really tell!
Is she webbing alot or burrowing?
I only have 7 tarantulas also, but I live on a small island and it's often inconvenient for me to travel by ferry to buy crickets. So, I started a B. lateralis colony, of which there are hundreds now.
I kill some of the extras by freezing, give some to a friend with small snakes and I'm...
I didn't see one on that site, but I found this:

Perfect! Thanks for the idea! Today after having my hand in the roach bin filling their food container, I caught a tiny one climbing on my sleeve. I'm paranoid, I tell ya:o
Hi all,
I have a colony a B. lateralis which has grown from 30 adults to what looks like thousands of babies. I'm getting a bit paranoid about escapees - if any do, I fear my colony will get banned from the household :)
Up till now I've been putting a kritter keeper in the rubbermaid bin with...
When I worked in a commercial greenhouse they used to let off nicotine smoke bombs when the aphids got really bad, and it sure enough killed all the spiders too.
You guys are makng me worry even more, with your slings that eat everyday!!!!
I don't care if they grow fast, I'd be happy if they aren't dead and will eat something -anything :)
I recieved three very small (.25")slings on August 16 - 2 B. alboplisum and 1 B. emilia. I rehoused them into slightly larger vials and all three ate pinheads that first week.
The two curlyhairs then burrowed, the emilia stays on top of the peat subtrate. I dampen the walls slightly every...
I have the same question, I've heard that they can't see red light, so it doesn't screw up their night/day cycle, but the question was for blue.
Supposedly fish are not bothered by "moonlights" which are sold as blue halogens, but what about T's? Does anyone know if they can they see blue...
I don't get how you can have "leftover" crickets?? Why do you buy 30 more two weeks later? Just keep the 'leftovers' until they are all eaten or die. You can still clean out the enclosure when you want - pour the crix in a plastic bag, clean cage, put in new eggcarton or toilet rolls - pour...
Actually, one of the reasons I'm considering chicken feed it is for the value - way cheaper than dogfood OR Rice Krispies, for that matter!
What other inexpensive alternatives are there? I hate spending money on insects that supposedly eat anything :)
In the meantime I'll try to find a...
I read in some other thread that someone was using non-medicated chicken feed for their roaches, with good success, and I thought I might give it a try.
For anyone out there who does this can I get some more details - like what % protein, the "cracked" kind or the kind that's more like...
