Mark,
I have not heard from you in 5 months. The last message I recieved from you was April 7, in which I responded that none of the females had produced anything. I am sorry you feel slighted, but as any other breeder could tell you, it's simply the way it goes sometimes. As stated on the...
Keanon,
A. versicolor are an arboreal species and will tend to stay close to the top of the enclosure. 2 gallons is too much space in my opinion for a spiderling of that size. Prey items will tend to elude your tarantula in an enclosure that large. A 50 dram plastic vial (1 7/8" diameter; 4...

Waldo,
It's perfectly normal behavior for this species. The worst thing you can do is attempting to modify it's environment to suit your desire to get a better view. As Brian S pointed out, once it has established a retreat, then it is obvioulsy comfortable and secure in it's environment...
Not that it needs repeating, but fasting through winter months is normal. Aphonopelma, much like Grammostola ( i've seen several threads concerning the same activity, or lack thereof, with this species as well) can refuse prey items for months with no decline in their health.
As others have...
Nhandu coloratovillosus is the current scientific name for the tarantula formerly classified as Brazilopelma coloratovillosum. They are one and the same.
You will find while searching the internet, and books as well, that the taxonomy of theraphosidae changes often, and scientific names found...
I will be attending the Southwest Reptile Expo (formerly Texas Reptiles) November 12th & 13th. There will be a large variety of tarantulas at my table, but if you plan on attending and are looking for anything specific, please call, 1-800-915-1429, or drop me an email with details.
If you are...
This was the 1st time I have done the Arlington Show for Southwest Reptiles, but it won't be the last. I had a great time meeting some new people from the boards, Chris (hamfoto), Beth (Beth-Tex), Dragonhunter (I'm afraid my failing memory can't recall your actual name), Troy (whose screen name...
Just reminding everyone in the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth area, let me know if you plan on attending and if you want me to bring anything specific.
Thanks,
Eric

from a dealer's perspective
I hope no one takes this as anything but a chance to understand what it takes to be a major T-dealer but at the moment we've got about $35,000 - $40,000 invested in tarantulas. That's actual cost and not counting those that were produced by our own breeding efforts...
Re: Re: some observations
Cheaper is a relative term.
However, this lot is more expensive simply because the first lot lit the fire of demand and supply still can't feed it. The original wildcaughts were essentially smuggled out in the first place and there is not much of a chance that...
some observations
I do try to stay out of these discussions since I usually end up saying more than I should but I'm pretty close to this subject and thought I might be able shed a little light on it.
In a nutshell it is 'supply and demand' or rather should be 'demand and supply.' Everything...
a few stolen phots
I just spent a few minutes going through this site and found almost 100 (96 for sure) photos taken from E-Spiderworld's site. These are mostly my own photos, sometimes of other people's spiders (mainly Frank Somma) and a few photos used with permission. This is aboust 1/3 of...
It's impossible to ID a species simply from a photo but what you have seems very similar to A. behlei. Check this pic out from my website http://www.e-spiderworld.com/images/gallery/images/Aphonopelma%20behlei.jpg
There are a couple other A. behlei pics, including a mature male but I'm not...
I don't usually waste my time visiting Todd's site but Martin's note about him using his pics got me curious and sure enough I find Todd's using at least one of mine - without permission and without credit. I don't usually have a problem with granting permission, even to other dealers, if they...
