>>Adult pokes will drink quite readily from a waterdish...and they will go to the substrate for it.That's my preferred method.I just find they sometimes won't take to drinking the mistings which most times spooks the heck out of them,so having a waterdish available is the better option. They can...
>>yup...I think the high male to female ratio of this species is true.Out of my 6 it looks like only 2 will be female.Makes for some really expensive females
>>I found if offered a slab or semi circle slab of corkbark they will burrow at and around the base of the corkbark...venturing out periodically onto the corkbark.I however this time offered a "tube" type hide and they go aboreal from the start. They web the entire inside of the tube and live...
Personally I believe ph of the substrate is significant. It affects both plant and animal life.I've tried pretty much all the substrates and combos there of but I've noticed better growth rates and even better color of the spiders(terrestrial and burrowing) since switching over to organic soil...
>>why don't you try experimenting a little. You'd be surprised the size of prey spiders can take down in relation to their own size.I've have/had spiders that will take down prey 2-3 times their full size.Roaches are pretty harmless.Try a roach the same size as the spider and see if the spider...
>>I always start a bit of the burrow/tunnel for them..about a 3" vertical hole about 1.5" wide. They usually take to it very quickly as opposed to having to start their own.99% of the time they head right down it immediately. Now the size of the tunnel I just described is for adults.Gear the size...
>>Brave...lol...you got that right..lol..She's easily 2x his size.Make a meal of him real quick.Nice to see pics of mature female rufs...you don't see them often.Very impressive spiders.Great pics Eddy. Thanks for sharing.
>>If you have condensation you probably don't have enough ventilation.Ventilation is much more critical than humidity.Up the ventilation and if that doesn't help you've got it just too wet in there.Although it's fine to keep the substrate completely dry(make sure there's access to water at all...
>>2 bad eggsacs... .OUCH!!....Any reasons for the bad sacs that come to mind?..or just a case of bad sac luck?Just asking because I have 2 mature females waiting patiently for a male and it would be nice to produce some good sacs.Any input appreciated.
>>Give it 30 days.If it's a molt good chance you'll see her before the 30 days are up.If not do some investigating. There's a good chance she might have a sack :D
Oh so that's what they look like...lol..I've got a few of them and haven't seen them since I aquired them...only for a brief second and it's usually just the front legs when they snatch a cricket. They're due up for rehousing so maybe I'll manage a peek at them then. They are a nice looking...
>>I find these guys a very hardy species. They grow quite quickly actually.I keep the soil slightly moist...more to the dry side and moderate temps. It's not a big concern to have freshly hatched pinheads for them. They will take/scavenge dead pinheads no problem...even pinheads bigger than they...
>>I have a few of them (6).One is quite large now..approaching 2" and the "carapacic protrusion" (lol..I like that term..) is quite evident.I'll see if can snap a pic and post it.It was actually visible at a smaller size under magnifying glass, but can easily be seen by the naked eye now.
>>I'd be a little leary of feeding feeder fish to a spider.Feeders, along with new imports are treated/and the water treated for prevention/treatment of diseases and stress with chemicals/antibiotics etc.I wouldn't want to chance my spider eating fish treated with such.Fish to me just doesn't...
I've done it on a few occasions.I did/do it for a couple reasons.First there was no further need of the male...personal breeding projects or loans.Second deciding factor is that he makes a good meal for the female as she won't eat during sack raising which by providing her with an extra large...
>>slightly moisten along the "inside" of the rim.I usually put just a few drops along the inside rim...one drop every couple of inches.Be careful not to do too much in one area as the water will quickly leech down to the egg/nymph area very quickly resulting in wet eggs/nymphs....something you...
