I think what you have is Dynastes granti not D.tityus. The former is more often found in the South & Eastern part of the states. D. granti also is a bit larger. Beautiful beetles
Pedes & Prey
Personally, I always feed freshly dead to all the centipedes I work with. With 20+ yrs. in the field, I've never had one that wouldn't take. S. subspinipes do tend to be a bit nervous/cautious feeders, but I have found that with gentle coaxing they respond well to dead prey. Cheers!
