I noticed the new National Geographic line while I was at Petsmart yesterday. They have some interesting reptile enclosures.
Your GBB would probably have a ball with the root system, but the log for your H. mac looks too small IMO. I'm not sure s/he would be able to fit inside it comfortably...
Hmm, thanks! It just weirds me out that after having the same previous molt date and feeding schedule, one of them would think it would be ideal to go ahead and molt, while the other decided to wait a few more months.
I wouldn't be worried about putting it on the ground- they will be able to find it. I never see my A. urticans on the ground, however I know she knows where the water dish is because she likes to put her leftover dinner in it every week!
I have 2 A. versicolors. They were both the same size when I got them, and presumably from the same sack. They entered my care ~ 11/22/13 and were super tiny. Both of them molted for me on 1/4/14. On 3-20-14, only one of them molted. As of 4-30-14, the other still has not molted. They are in...
Someone near me is selling one of those Low Exo's for 40 bucks still in the box. They are sweet, but I would look for something other than a Brachy to put in it.
If you want to use the exo for the balfouri, you might consider laying it down so that the doors are on the top. Then, you can adjust the height so that the T doesn't fall. There is a small "guide" on how to do that somewhere around here. Not really too much to it though.
Best of luck on your entry to the service! I recently enlisted in the Air Force's Guard component to work on the B-2 stealth bombers. Luckily, I got a fellow teacher into the hobby, so she will be watching over mine for the 7/8 months I will be gone next school year. They will even be able to...
I'm not sure what I did to that above post. Can I fix the extra attachment?
Ember. Brachypelma vagans. She's getting so plump!
Tiger Lilly. Psalmopoeus irminia. Just molted and in her new home. This friend only has maintenance done on the weekends when school isn't in session...
Their food is stored under the cabinet. Dubia roaches.
Tigger. Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens molting. The kids LOVED seeing this. It was the first molt we actually got to watch during school.
Post molt:
Hey! Here's a look at the tarantulas currently living in my 2nd grade classroom. I think I've posted a few pics here and there before, but this thread will help keep everything together. I should mention that I'm just an amateur photographer armed only with the capabilities of an iPad mini. This...
As an elementary school teacher, I joined Arachnoboards for ideas and support. After my class voted on a pet tarantula, I knew I had to have my facts in order to get it approved by the school district. The wealth of knowledge found here allowed me to do just that. My kids now experience 9...
I replace the metal wiring with pet-resistant screen door mesh. Cut it to your needs with an X-acto knife and hot glue it in place very easily. Like this: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Phifer-48-in-x-84-in-Black-Pet-Screen-3004153/100565927
Lightning- A. versicolor sling= They like him because he is fast and very blue.
Penny- A. urticans juvie= Some of the girls think she's 'sweet' and tell her good morning when they come in.
Tiger Lily- P. irminia sling= This one has molted the most for us so far, so it's been pretty exciting...
Thanks for the encouragement!
There doesn't seem to be just one strong favorite. They argue over what one is the best all the time, haha
The music teacher ended up getting a juvie B. smithi to help teach her young daughter a little while back. She now has 3. :)
For those who were wondering/asking...
We've grown from one tarantula to 9 in just a few months. I'm not sure who is more addicted at this point- me or the kids! All of the students have come around and I've already had offers from parents volunteering to take them over the summer if I...
Thanks, everyone! As chance would have it, a small 5? gallon tank of this brand ended up getting donated along with some variation of the G. rosea. The wire is indeed very flimsy-and sharp! I'm going to replace it with this pet resistant screen door screen that I have on my LP tank. (If any of...
