Spider bite and infection. Reactions serious.

Arent you located in NC? If your friend is or is nearby, this is the place to go to: http://www.jemsekspecialty.com/index.php The clinic used to be located in NC, but they moved out of state a while back. They may also be able to refer someone closer. I had the same experience as...

    Non-lethal venomous snakes?

Yes, yes! I keep forgetting they are related. Have heard great things about the intelligence of just about the entire group. Although i'd read people comparing Elaphe s. schrencki to them also, hoping to get my hands on a hatchling this year. Ahh, I wasn't even thinking about Ptyas. This thread...

    Non-lethal venomous snakes?

You mentioned wanting something other then constriction feeding, but are you to referring to all constrictors or mostly boas/pythons? Are you looking for more "hunting" action? Are you wanting a species that's different ("cooler" really varies with taste) to show off? There is a wide world of...

    Horses as food livestock?

Was lurking & this thread caught my eye. This is just in time as I foresee things getting a LOT worse before they get better. Right now Texas is a HUGE HUGE HUGE issue. The drought & fire has killed their hay & most the pastures. So they've been buying cuts from other states, well, those who...

    Opinions- king vs etc laughing

I know I haven't posted on AB in forever, but this thread caught my eye. I've been toying with getting into snakes & was dead set on a hognose. Anyways, long story short, I decided to skip the "usual" & find a good "uncommon" starter. Everyone I know has a corn, RTB, or ball python. African...

"I know there are lizards in here somewhere!"

 Good to hear! Doxies & doxie crosses are definitely awesome little dogs when you come across them. And I recommend researching/seriously considering the other half if you get a mix. You may not find out right away what each half brings to the table, so make sure both halves work for...

"I know there are lizards in here somewhere!"

Please don't get one of those "designer" breeds if that's what you're after with the dachshund x pug :( I know dachshunds seem to be crossed with a lot of other toy breeds these days, just annoys me. There are to many "oppsys" out there already. And yes, very stubborn! Very sweet, but very...

"I know there are lizards in here somewhere!"

This is the aussie mix, Hoss, although the pics are about 3yrs old & he is a lot more grey around the muzzle now: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/nikipike/hoss1.jpg This is the beagle mix, Stacey: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v75/nikipike/stacey1.jpg...

"I know there are lizards in here somewhere!"

I thought your photos were amusing :) I myself have a dachshund x australian shepard & a dachshund x beagle mix. Talk about some prey drive! Mine are also confined to a decent sized fenced in yard & pretty much never catch anything, however they always pretend like they are! The beagle mix is...

    Betta Rescue

Since the tank is uncycled, each time you keep 30%, you're still adding back to the growing amount of nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia. Now in a larger tank, each would build up then ideally all three will level out. Tanks under 5gal, can be cycled. The nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia...

    Betta Rescue

Keep an eye out on any local yard sale websites. A heater is more important then a filter for a 1gal container since that's really to small to cycle anyways. You'll still need to do regular 100% water changes. Walmart even has them for $10.

    Betta Rescue

Don't forget a heater :D They've come a long way & have many nice smaller ones in the market for the 1-5gal range.

    whats a easy breed ?

If you are insistant upon breeding, I think you should go for something in the Avics, like the versicolor. They aren't the most $, there is a demand for them, and they aren't the worst species to deal wth. Really your posts make me think you need a LOT more experience with different species...

    Suggestions for a beginner's tarantula

From what you described of your situation, a GBB sounds perfect. They are easy to care for & ok in a dry environment = easy tarantula for your father to care for should he have to. Their venom is also less potent then the H. lividum, another bonus. H. lividum needs more humidity, generally...

A sure-fire trick to know your T is out at night

Just thought i'd throw this into the lovely little argument going on... Just because animals live certain ways in the wild, doesn't mean we want to replicate that in captivity. Animals die a lot in the wild from the various things we try to keep out of their lives in captivity...

    Rare Breed Chickens

Lol, I'm sorry. My brain swapped "at" for "to". I just looked it up and it is, although it's probably several generations away from the orignal cross.
