This species is known for hiding away for weeks at a time, so nothing to worry about there.
It's ironic though because people get these because they're so amazingly beautiful but they're essentially arboreal "pet holes" and you hardly ever see them. lol
This may or may not help but get...
Pros:
Gorgeous
Make fantastic webbed fortresses
Like it dry w/ a water dish
Eat like beasts
Cons:
Can be aggressive (Owned 7 and 2 were mean, the others were chill)
Hard to clean tank (webbing is thick and everywhere)
Price (can be quite high at times)
Agree with many of the other posters...
Tips:
-Make sure the enclosure has good ventilation, yet adequate humidity.
-This is an arboreal species so set up the tank according (vertical with branches for climbing)
-Don't expect to see it everyday (I didn't see mine for 2 whole months once)
Don't worry. This species is shy though I've had some outgoing ones but they are the exception.
I've had t's that I didn't see for months and months. Sure enough, they were all alive just being comfortable in their homes.
For anyone with just a "pet hole," I always recommend they go...
Agree.
People place too much emphasis on humidity when they should be thinking more about proper circulation. Stagnant air breeds disease.
It's a very easy mod to drill some more holes.
Every one has/knows someone with a drill. If it's glass.. get a drill bit made to drill through...
Well, sounds like you have A LOT of research to do so let me point you in the right direction.
First, read every single word written about tarantula breeding on the net, and ask as many questions you can from people who have bred that particular species. Often times, they will provide insight...
Agree.
In fact, it's best to mate a female about a month post molt. If a female molts she loses the sperm I believe. It's happened to me before.
Another good thing to think about is this, just because a pair was been mated and everything looks good, it doesn't make a female gravid. I...
I'm really eager to hear the outcome of this..
If you're really interested, bring some cash, make him an offer and rush home to give us a report! :D
Good luck!
I sold a freshly molted (2-1-08) 3" G.grossa on February 10 or so.
This morning the buyer messaged me saying it molted again.
In my experience, no tarantula molts that fast. Her last molt was fine. Could it have been brought on by stress?
Any comments? Concerns? Explanations?
By far the worst experience I've ever had on the boards. I sent a pm to Justin about a 4" female A.versicolor he had for sale. He doesn't accept PayPal, so we agreed the tarantula was mine and I shipped the money order the next morning. 4 days later I messaged Justin to check the status and...
What is a "decent price?" Skypainter is selling 3/4" sling for $15/ea. Is that too expensive? They're worth it!
Avicularia versicolor
-brilliant blue as slings
-colorful as adults
-super docile
-grow fast!
I'll sell the slings when they hatch out. Until then I'm making sure it's nice...
Funny story. I received the MM, unpacked him, thought, what it I paired them now? I did, they mated and now I have an eggsac.
Usually I'm a lot more organized and official when it comes to breeding. I hope it's a viable sac if/when I pull it.
