I just take any size superworm or cricket and put it in a container. Then I shake the hell out of it to kill the prey. Put the dead food in there and it will eventually eat. I had my .5" LP eat an entire superworm that was a good 1.5-2"
I never implied that he should let his T "just survive", I just explained that under 55-60 is the only time to heat things up. And without a hygrometer it's impossible to know the humidity of an "average house". My house stays at about 50-70% humidity all year round, no need to mist in these...
Gotta love how the hognas eyes light up! I'm getting the itch for a sicarius again, the slings look just like a brown recluse. Need to fork out some cash for some new critters soon
Funny, I just had one of these guys creeping up my wall. It was a mature male, I put him outside so he can "get jiggy" :roflmao:
Anyways...
(1) Can you overfeed a grass spider? Can a grass spider die from overeating?
Most, if not all, spiders will stop eating instead of over eating. Although...
Completely normal, my A. versi does this sometimes. If you feed her, she will be encouraged to build a web to protect her while she's eating, but that isn't always a guarantee.
Also, unless your room gets really cold (like below 55-60 F) then the heating pad isnt necessary. Even if it gets...
Whoops! I thought they were $10, and they're $20!
Anyways, I ordered $120 in T's and was too cheap to spend the extra $20 for the sicarius...Go figure..
Wow! The markings on that wolf are amazing, kinda reminds me of a pokie. And that last jumper almost looks like an M. Volans, although those aren't in Sri Lanka...
From ken? If so, I have the same hogna and they are pretty quick, like P. murinus quick so stay alert! And if you dont already know, the sicarius could have a potentially lethal bite, not much known about their venom. I'm kinda mad I didn't get one on my last order from him, it was only...
I keep H. venatoria and although they are the fastest spider I know, they are manageable. I use the bag method to rehouse, and I keep a large slab of bark in the enclosure. H. venatoria likes to hide on bark, once they find a comfortable spot to sit, they don't move much unless disturbed...
How about a quarterly magazine (every 4 months)? I work for a magazine publication company and a lot of the "niche interest" magazines come out quarterly. You should consider featuring true spiders also, more to write about.
You may find yourself running out of material to write with a...
My H. venatoria is the fastest thing I've ever owned. Rehousing/maintenance is not something I look forward to. A T's got nothing on a huntsman, I laugh at my P. murinus when it's trying to get away
If you want something that will challenge you every time you open the enclosure...
Update: she is now refusing food and is acting more defensive...definitely premolt!
I think she was dehydrated at first because of the sunken abdomen, it was pretty hot when she was shipped. But she is now as fast as my P. murinus! Yay!
Thanks everyone for reassuring me on everything!
+1 on Lasiodora parahybana! Great specimen
A. chalcodes as mentioned is another awesome one.
My A. versicolor isn't too skittish, you may wanna look up videos and see for yourself.
There's always a G. rosea
