    Hermit Crab experience, anyone?

Hi all! Need some advice! New crabber and wanting to do well by them all. Here's some background... Just bought 2 tiny and 2 small crabs on the 1st (today is the 5th). 3 gallon tank - these guys are pretty small. 4 inches of Sand/coconut fiber (sandcastle consistancy) substrate, salt and...

PacMan Dies from coconut fiber substrate

Hi all, Luckily I work at a Veterinary Teaching Hospital, so we were able to post (autopsy) our little Frog (Gorf) and read tissues under the microscope. Here's what we found: His intestine was extremely impacted with substrate. I was told by an exotic veterinarian that frogs will...

    Another pet store post

Just curious... does anyone know where are the pet stores obtaining these T's? Who/where are their sources? I can't think a T of small stature would be appealing to a consumer, so they must be acquiring them as larger, non-juvenile (if there is such a word) tarantulas. Perhaps someone is...

    clarification on "instar"

Nice... Okay, I'm starting to understand now. Thank you! What is the "N" classification? I ask this because I'm looking to buy a few more arachnid family members, and have found several listed using the "N" classification.

    clarification on "instar"

Hi all, After doing some searching, I'm confused on the classification of instars. I've read that after hatching and a spiders first molt, the sling (is it even a sling at this point?) is considered a "1st instar". After the second, the baby is considered a "2nd instar"... and so on. With...

    Weather-related behavior?

Although not a T, my horses will be very restless during that type of weather. They are tucked away in an enclosed barn, and have very little exposure to the weather, but somehow they still know.

what do you make of this...?

My ventilation is great, and she's fat and sassy - makes me feel like I'm doing something right. I just had a dumb thought, though. If it's a desert species, and terrestrial, wouldn't it be relatively used to sunlight? I suppose in the desert there's good ventilation, they may burrow to...

what do you make of this...?

Very cool, although I still am concerned I'm not keeping her warm enough. Also, should she be in a location where she can get sunlight? I had always thought t's were happy in a darker location.

what do you make of this...?

I'm wondering why she would want heat though... it's always around 78 to 80 in the room she's in (that's fahrenheit). Do I need to keep her warmer? I was half considering she may be attracted to the shine of the flame. Maybe T's are like ostriches, and attracted to shiny objects. :)

what do you make of this...?

Hi all, Quick question. While I was cleaning the house yesterday, I put a lit candle on the same shelf as my b. smithii to get it out of the way so I could dust. While my back was turned, she came out of her hide and plastered herself on the wall closest to the flame. When I moved the...

    B. smithii just flipped on back.... quick question

Update... she was still motionless until 2am this morning when I said enough and went to bed. When I woke up this morning around 6am she was beautifully molted, almost neon colored, and HUGE! Seven hours of nothing but laying there motionless and flat on her back. Had me scared for a...
