American Southwest Vivarium- Please give suggestions.

There are some nice dudleya sp. from inland CA that meet your requirements. The only issue I see with keeping multiple species, is that unless they have identical requirements, a 10 gallon tank is hard to create the micro-climates needed to support multiple species. Superstitionia donensis are...

Pandinus, not sure about P imperator, I'm leaning toward P cavimanus though.

    What do you name them?

yet this site has more than its fair share of people providing incorrect husbandry, posting about it, and taking offense when a knowledgeable individual attempts to correct them.

Substrate - Eco Earth, Potting Soil, Vermiculite, and Dirt

I personally use a blend that I mix myself that includes coir, crushed all-natural hardwood charcoal, peat, ground sphagnum, mycorrhizal inoculant, natural clay, and sand. It works great for both plants and microfauna.

Substrate - Eco Earth, Potting Soil, Vermiculite, and Dirt

Perlite is not tiny crushed glass. It is volcanic glass that has a high content of trapped bubbles, hence why it is light in weight and color. It is not sharp. The only time I have ever seen advice to not use it is with herps, as they may ingest it, causing impaction. It should not pose a...

Hot Glue Gun, Substrate and Decor.

You could also use 100% silicone, just make sure it does not have the mold/mildew inhibitor (typically the bathroom/kitchen silicone has it). It takes 24+ hours to dry and cure though.

Though now that I take a second look, the left is definitely a female. The one on the right looks like it could be a male, what is the age of the animal? Also do you have any other vent pics for the one on the right?

Both pics look to be female. Males will have very pronounced femoral pores.

If you want a communal arachnid, why not just stick with scorpions, many of them are great communal specimens.

Are there any insects that you still kill

Perhaps mosquitoes are natures way of controlling the human population. No disrespect to any of the people infected by anything carried by mosquitoes, just saying. I *try* not to kill anything that wanders or flies into my house, sometimes it can't be helped, but I try.

Get ready for the next wave of nitwits..

I can see that he perhaps intended to show people that T's aren't as bad as all of the negative PR they usually receive. However, I think this was the wrong vehicle for that message. That coupled with the fact that every news article I have found has Howie Mandel calling them "poisonous...

What got you interested in Ts ?

When I moved from LA to Riverside County (age 8) and I caught my first A eutylenum. I spent a lot of time at my LPS and soon had a P imperator, G rosea, B smithi, H troglodytes, along with other assorted herps, inverts and fish. That was 25 years ago this month!

Biting and How to Prevent It

Animals are, and always will be, somewhat unpredictable. Even abstaining from handling your T's is no guarantee that you won't get bit. The first way to avoid getting bit is to understand the stereotypical temperament of the animal you plan to keep. Of course there are ALWAYS exceptions to...

First post - Glass or Plastic Exo Terra?

The exo-terras can be retrofitted to solid top fairly easily. Pull the screen off and silicone plexiglass with drilled airholes in place of the screen. It really depends on how handy you are at DIY. You could always lock the front doors if you're too worried about swinging doors and an...
